About the Company

Mediphage is a biotech company developing non-viral, safe, and redosable gene therapies. Ministring DNA (msDNA), Mediphage’s flagship technology, is a versatile linear covalently closed (LCC) DNA construct that can accommodate large transgenes ( > 4.7 kb) with a broad range of applications. The company is evaluating the therapeutic potential of its non-viral platform technology in a number of indications internally and through external collaborations.

Role Description

Individuals with BSc. or diploma in biology, microbiology, cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, pharmacy, chemical engineering, or a related field with proven wet lab experience working with DNA extraction, E. coli culture, growth, or similar microorganisms, and bacterial fermentation are invited to apply. The individual will work closely with and be supervised by the Manufacturing Supervisor.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Be part of the manufacturing team to support the upstream processing/production of msDNA for ongoing projects and programs
• Prepare media and buffers (at various pHs) and reagents for all upstream applications
• Clean, maintain, and operate equipment for E.coli growth
• Follow aseptic techniques while using microbiology lab equipment, including biosafety cabinets, incubators, and autoclaves on regular basis
• Conduct routine preparation and growth of bacterial cultures, including but not limited to transformations, streaking for single colonies, preparing starter cultures for manufacturing, growing cultures for cryopreservation, etc.
• Conduct and optimize molecular biology techniques including PCR, restriction enzyme digests, ligations, transformations, plasmid extractions, AGE, etc.
• Conduct and optimize bacterial transformation techniques, including physical and chemical transformations
• Possess the ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve issues with experiments as needed
• Support team with regular lab maintenance and inspections
• Possess the physical ability to lift heavy objects up 25lbs

Organization

• Time management: efficiently organize and plan daily activities to ensure timely completion of objectives
• Record and manage experimental data in company’s database
• Maintain stocks of lab supplies and reagents and perform other assigned lab organization duties as needed

Documentation and Presentation

• Generate thorough and timely records of in-house experimental work and up to date data records, including lab notebook as needed
• Clear scientific communication and presentation skills: prepare and present weekly presentations to summarize results of completed projects
• Keep technical documents up to date, including Standard Operating Procedures, protocols, and reports

Teamwork & Culture

• Capable of working as part of a high performing team focused on the development of novel scalable nucleic acid vector production platforms for use in in vivo and ex vivo genetic medicine applications
• Effectively communicate and collaborate with team members across different functions

Qualifications

• Recent undergraduate with relevant lab experience in biology, microbiology, cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related field
• Strong technical skills in microbiology and molecular biology is a must
• Hands-on lab experience with E. coli is preferred
• Demonstrated ability to follow sterile/aseptic techniques in the lab is a must
• Knowledge and work experience in Good Laboratory Practices is an asset
• Experience working with small scale fermentors is preferred but not required
• Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail
• Able to work under pressure, with large workloads, and tight deadlines
• Able to work in a team-oriented environment as the successful candidate will work closely with other members of manufacturing and R&D team and participate in multidisciplinary projects
• Strong organizational, time-management, and multitasking skills
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Professional and positive approach, self-motivated, team player
• Creative problem-solver with the ability to take on new initiatives and drive them forward
• Must be able to work flexible hours, as needed
