About the Company

Mediphage is a biotech company developing non-viral, safe, and redosable DNA-based gene therapies. Ministring DNA (msDNA), Mediphage’s flagship technology, is a versatile linear covalently closed (LCC) DNA construct that can accommodate large transgenes ( > 4.7 kb) with a broad range of applications. The company is evaluating the therapeutic potential of its non-viral platform technology in a number of indications internally and through external collaborations.

Role Description

Individuals with BSc. or Diploma. in biology, molecular biology, microbiology, chemistry, chemical engineering, pharmacy, or relevant degrees with 3+ years industrial experience working with downstream processing (chromatography, filtration) are invited to apply. The individual will work closely with and be supervised by the Scientist for Process Development.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Be part of the manufacturing team to support the downstream processing/production of msDNA for ongoing projects and programs
• Prepare buffers (at various pHs) and reagents for all downstream applications
• Clean, maintain, and operate equipment such as centrifuges, filtration and chromatography units with emphasis on liquid chromatography systems (FPLCs)
• Perform DNA isolation using a range of downstream processes such as cell lysis, microfiltration chromatography, tangential flow filtration (TFF), and diafiltration
• Possess the ability to develop and optimize assays and present creative solutions to experimental problems
• Demonstrate safe work habits and maintain a clean work environment. Understand and comply with safety SOPs and guidelines, PPE requirements, biohazard training, and monthly safety training
• Develop SOPs, batch records, and provide technical support to the team
• Support team with regular lab maintenance and inspections

Organization

• Time management: efficiently organize and plan daily activities to ensure timely completion of objectives
• Maintain accurate and up to date records, including electronic and lab notebook
• Record and manage experimental data in company’s database
• Maintain stocks of lab supplies and reagents and perform other assigned lab organization duties as needed

Documentation and Presentation

• Generate thorough and timely records of in-house experimental work and up to date data records, including lab notebook as needed
• Clear scientific communication and presentation skills: prepare and present weekly presentations to summarize results of completed projects
• Keep technical documents up to date, including Standard Operating Procedures, protocols, and reports

Teamwork & Culture

• Capable of working as part of a high performing team focused on driving process and innovation as needed in msDNA production and downstream processing
• Effectively communicate and collaborate with team members across different functions
• Available to work on evenings or weekends, as needed

Qualifications

• Diploma or bachelor degree in biology, molecular biology, microbiology, chemistry, chemical engineering, pharmacy, or relevant degrees
• 3+ years of relevant industry experience is a must
• Hands on experience with chromatography and ultrafiltration equipment (preferably with AKTA systems) is a must
• Strong knowledge of DSP techniques such as chromatography (IEX, HIC, Affinity), filtration (TFF, Diafiltration, Microfiltration).
• Knowledge and work experience in cGMP manufacturing facilities is an asset
• Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail
• Able to work under pressure, with large workloads, and tight deadlines
• Able to work in a team-oriented environment as the successful candidate will work closely with other members of R&D team and participate in multidisciplinary projects
• Strong organizational, time-management, and multitasking skills
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Professional and positive approach, self-motivated, team player
• Creative problem-solver with the ability to take on new initiatives and drive them forward
• Must be able to work flexible hours, as needed, including night shifts
