Job Description

This position is with the Global Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team, an upstart group of software and systems engineers responsible for transforming the way that MediaKind software is operated at scale. On the SRE team, you will learn how our distributed systems function at scale, identify opportunities for change and improvement, instrument applications with advanced telemetry, and craft MediaKind’s long-term response to incidents and issues. We don’t stop at automating existing processes and workflows – we design and implement complex systems that are efficient and robust.

You will partner with a diverse team of software developers, operations leaders, and systems engineers across the globe and will have the opportunity to represent the solutions your team is developing to customers and partners. The SRE team is a team that values respect, professionalism, creativity, and perseverance (among other things). The SRE team members work in a fast paced environment capable of solving complex problems and quickly turning ideas into implemented software solutions.

Impact & Challenges

Your work will have an impact on teams and products throughout the company. The SRE team builds preflight checks for event-based sports programming, video mapreduce for continuous video quality monitoring including slate and color bar detection, and alert automation and self-healing workflows. We define companywide standards for software robustness and we help teams to meet those standards by educating and building solutions together.

Responsibilities

You will partner with the MediaKind support team to design and build high-impact automation

You will identify opportunities to rearchitect software to improve robustness and reliability at scale

You will work closely with software development teams to align feature development with real-world operational requirements

You will implement and improve the timeseries metrics used to determine the health of MediaKind systems

You will work with Cloud Engineering team to improve reliability of MediaKind’s Cloud deployed products.

You will be a member of an Agile DevOps team

Suggested Qualifications

2+ years of managing complex technology products

Experience working with product and program management

Experience designing and building distributed systems

Experience as a software engineer, building backend systems

Prior experience in systems engineering, SRE,or quality assurance

Effective communication skills, written and verbal

Ability to manage multiple competing priorities simultaneously

Proven track-record of making progress in the presence of ambiguity

Relevant Technologies:
Java, C++, Go, Linux, Postgres, Cassandra, SQL, Apache, Kubernetes, Widevine, Fairplay, Playready, cryptography, REST, XML, SOAP, DASH, HLS, Redis, Grafana, Prometheus.
