Current Need

We are looking for a talented and motivated Principal Platform Engineer to lead and accelerate our efforts to drive trust, access, adoption of the McKesson Integrated Developer Platform. As Principal Platform Engineer you’ll be empowering and leading the Platform Engineering organization through digital transformation.

Summary

• Lead and define the vision and strategy of Cloud Platform Engineering, build a state-of-the art Integrated Developer Platform (IDP).
• Lead engineering efforts to innovate the platform to serve new applications, tools, and Developer Platform.
• Collaborate with technical leaders from different teams to set direction for organization wide initiatives.
• Contribute to product milestones by solving most complex problems, through understanding dependencies in both in platform and software product(s).
• Work closely with other local functional leaders (product development teams, data engineering, data-hub, various data source application owner etc.) to drive collaboration.
• Partner with relevant stakeholders to attract talent, set goals, measure and reward performance.
• Partners with product teams to establish platform priorities
• Leverage, synthesize and integrate work from team members. Provide technical advice, mentoring, and direction to team members.
• Communicate, coordinate, and collaborate with peers in the Cloud Platform and the groups in McKesson Technology Organization to plan and implement resource plans effectively across team.
• Evaluate stability, compatibility, scalability, interoperability, and address performance and usability of the application platform.
• Partner closely with leadership and key stakeholders as a trusted and influential evangelist to identify important questions, define key metrics and cultivate data driven decision making.

Critical Skills:

• Typically requires 13+ years of professional experience and 8+ years of software development, cloud computing, communication, and people motivation skills (or equivalent experience)
• Minimum 10+ years of experience in a software engineering platform team in a Cloud, SaaS environment and supporting mission-critical services.
• Minimum 5+ years of experience in Kubernetes. Experience with Azure AKS or Google GKE is highly desired.
• Proficient knowledge and use of Kubernetes, Docker, Azure/GCP, Java, React, Python, CI/CD Pipelines with technologies and tools such as GitHub, Artifactory, GitHub Actions, Terraform, Ansible, Cloud Infrastructure and Microservices.
• Experience building out Cloud strategy, a combination of Software Development and DevOps team in a fast-evolving organization.
• Experience leading large technical projects with partnership w/ App Dev and Data Platform teams.
• Experience developing and working with REST APIs.
• Strong ability to communicate complicated and nuanced insights in accessible language to relevant stakeholders
• Demonstrated experience taking a driving role in building complex software products (in Java/React) that have been successfully delivered to customers.
• Well versed in best practices of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, secure code coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
• Experience with multiple software development methodologies and their tools.
• Experience with coaching and mentoring mid-level engineers and driving innovation within a software team.

Additional Knowledge and Skills

• High EQ with excellent written and oral communication skills; Experience in both internal and external storytelling and executive presentations.
• Excellent oral and written communication and ability to articulate the design walkthrough with architects and discuss strategy/requirements with teams.
• Thrives in an environment of continuous change and complexity- can drive quality insights and deliver high impact projects.
• Focus on data driven decision making and learning by experimentation.

Education:

Degree in Engineering, computer science, mathematics or equivalent experience.
