What is the purpose of this role?

The Assistant Accountant supports the management and reporting of financial impacts of new, renewed and amended leases in accordance with IFRS and GAAP accounting standards. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: P&L and balance sheet analysis and management, month end journals, account reconciliation. This role requires some level of technical accounting skills, attention to detail. Accurate and timely reporting to support leadership and other key stakeholder decision making. Importance is placed on strong internal controls including the adherence to SOX controls and audit requirements.

What will my key accountabilities be?

• Validate lease data and critical accounting attributes for new, renewed and amended leases.
• Participate in the month end process and record lease journal entries.
• Management of balance sheet accounts including lease payments, ROUA/liability and sub-ledger reconciliations.
• Complete monthly reporting.
• Ad hoc analysis for key stakeholders including Commercial Finance, Tax and FP&A.
• Annual and ad hoc reporting to the Corporate Controller Group.
• Ensure SOX controls are met and adequate audit documentation is maintained.
• Effectively use Tririga, the lease accounting management system.
• Support ongoing enhancements to the Tririga system;
• Support the relationship with both Real Estate and external stakeholders as required.

Compliance

• Apply company policies and procedures and understand their relevance and importance to maintaining internal controls. This includes, but is not limited to, SOX controls and audit evidence requirements.
• Escalate transactional and system anomalies including internal control compliance issues to the manager as they arise.
• Meet specific team objectives and metrics, and support the business to achieve company-wide objectives.
• Demonstrate in depth knowledge of processes and procedures relevant to the function and take a proactive role in improving efficiency.

Your Background

Essential technical and behavioural skills

• Degree or studying accounting
• Experience in a similar role or with Lease Accounting standards in some capacity
• Ability to work with integrated systems
• Displays a high level of attention to detail to ensure accuracy in work
• Strong time management and prioritisation skill
• Excellent analytical skills and inquisitive mindset
• Strong written and verbal communication and organizational skills
• Ability to engage with others and build effective relationships

Desirable

• Experience with Tririga – lease management platform
• Advanced Excel skills
• Flexible and adaptive to change
• Actively seeks and accepts constructive feedback to build skills and competencies
• Experience with Balance Sheet reconciliations
• 2+ years in a Big 4 or Mid-tier accounting firm
