Position description
To perform specialized respiratory therapy clinical instruction and educational functions for students in rotation, Respiratory Assistants, and staff members. The hours for this role will vary significantly based on patient and team needs although generally, this role will be performed in a Monday through Friday capacity but will require night, shift, and weekend work during certain times.

Qualifications

Successful completion of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program. Must be licensed as a Registered Respiratory Therapist in the state of Florida. Previous teaching and leadership experience preferred. An Associate of Science degree and actively seeking a Bachelor’s degree in a Respiratory Therapy or related field is required within six months of hire. A minimum of two years of experience in the respiratory care field, two of which should be recent in critical care, is required. BLS and ACLS must be maintained. ACLS may be obtained within 30 days of hire.

Additional qualifications

Work is moderately demanding, requiring standing, walking, lifting patients, and pushing equipment. Should be familiar with JCAHO standards and requirements. Basic understanding of computers. Good verbal and written communication skills required to be used during contacts with physicians, hospital staff, patients, and the public. Exposure to infectious patients, needle puncture hazards, and hazards related to compressed gases.

License or certification

All Respiratory Therapists will hold the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential prior to their first day of employment. Respiratory Therapists are required to maintain Basic Life Support or the equivalent as determined by the site of hire. ACLS, PALS within 3 months of hire. Instructor status on one or all of the certifications is encouraged. COPD Educator course through the AARC is required or obtained within 90 days of hire.
