The Role:

Frontend Engineers at Max Kelsen are specialists in React and React Native. You will participate in all aspects of software development, including technical design & documentation, development, testing and deployment.

Max Kelsen has both consulting and product development functions within the business. You may choose to jump freely between consulting and product, or to focus in one area. Either way you will have the opportunity to experiment with and improve our tooling, whether that be uplifting a product codebase, or implementing a new project from scratch.

We primarily build SPAs and Mobile Applications in the Health Industry. This leads to really challenging and rewarding engineering problems. It also means that quality and ownership of outcomes are key, as your work can have a direct impact on patient outcomes.

What You’ll Do:

Here are some examples of the kinds of things we do day-to-day:

• Technical design of projects/ features, in collaboration with Backend and Platform Engineers
• Critical evaluation of technologies & tools to determine the best fit for purpose, documenting the outcomes.
  • This may include working on proof of concepts for different libraries & tools
• Thorough review of pull requests for your Frontend peers both on your project and on other projects.
• Implementing Frontend features
• Writing unit/integration/e2e tests
• Providing high level estimates for future projects, and more detailed estimates in sprint planning for current projects
• Releasing apps to the App Store / Google Play Store
• Implementing logging and analytics
• Composing frontend build pipelines
• Reviewing designs from the UX team and providing feedback about the technical feasibility
• Reviewing the work of our Business Analysts, filling in any technical gaps and raising general concerns
• Communicating early and clearly any blockers or risks to getting your work done on time
• Working with cloud tools such as Firebase, AWS Cognito, Auth0
• Showcasing work both internally and externally in sprint demos
• Fixing bugs or adding features to our existing codebases

Expected Skills and Experience:

• Bachelor or Masters degree in Computer Science/ Software Engineering or a related field
• Professional experience using React and/or React Native
• Professional experience using Git for source control

• Ability to provide meaningful effort estimations and appropriately escalate risks or dependencies
• Experience working in Agile environments as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Ability to analyse, evaluate and realise working designs with the design team, providing key technical feedback and suggestions.
• Experience with tooling such as GitHub and Jira to collaborate and manage delivery
• Proven ability to communicate problems and solutions to technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Using tools such as: Figma, Miro, Zeplin, Confluence, LucidChart

Bonus if you have experience with some of the below, but you can always pick these up on the job:

• Typescript
• React Native and/or native mobile development
• GitHub Flow, Conventional Commits, Semantic Versioning
• Composing CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions)

• Testing with Jest, React Testing Library, Cypress and/or Detox
