Position Overview:

The Designer, Tops drives all creative aspects of the product life cycle, from initial concept to production.  This person needs to be proficient in creative research, sales/business analytics, and commercialization of trend. The designer should be able to establish and clearly communicate the seasonal point of view to cross functional team, manager and reports. The Designer should exhibit attributes of a strong creative manager: have a strong voice, is curious & solution oriented, utilizes both analytical/creative brain, highly collaborative and is passionate about training and developing direct reports.  This person is motivated by our customer and is passionate about the work they do at Maurices.

Core Competencies / Functional Responsibilities:

• PRODUCT. Fabric first design; expert in fabric construction and brand aesthetic. Curates inspiration and trend research. Sketches and creates line-sheets in Adobe InDesign & tech-packs in PLM system. Presents concepts, fabric direction, style details seasonally, and adapts it appropriately to areas of business. Advises design ‘Fit-intent’ in product fittings. Owns product aesthetic & approvals.
• ORGANIZATION. Highly organized and detail oriented. Prioritizes work streams to deliver work that meets objectives within deadlines. Manages the product lifecycle calendar; owns the deliverables and responsible for milestone meeting preparation materials.  Seeks out of the box-thinking and challenges new ways of working. Identifies opportunities & creates best practices.
• COLLABORATION. Works & problem-solves with cross-functional partners in sourcing, tech-design and merchandising to develop and approve product throughout the design process. Is flexible & thrives in fast paced, often-changing, collaborative environment.
• BUSINESS ACCUMEN. Executes department objectives. Effectively reports current trends in relation to category and connects current sales results with future seasonal line plans. Leads product design in relation to the assortment architecture and line plan.  Works with cross-functional teams to bring product strategy to life in all channels of business.
• CUSTOMER CURIOUSITY. Understands our customer and seeks to naturally evolve her. Analyzes the competition and relates creative findings to the business. Passionate about working for maurices & designing for ‘Liv’
• COMMUNICATION/PRESENTATION. Excellent communication & interpersonal skills. Owns presentations in milestone meetings.

• TRAVEL. Domestic & international travel for inspiration shopping, factory sample development and vendor relationship building

Education/Experience:

• BA or BFA specializing in Fashion Design and/or 5+ years industry related experience.
• A minimum of 1 year managing others.
