Job description

This is a rare opportunity to help drive the efficiency and growth of an exciting creative and technical production company rebuilding post COVID, plus depending on appetite and hours, drive growth and synergies with Chameleon’s sister company Entec based in North London.

You have the opportunity to be responsible for the development, management, and oversight of financial planning, governance, budgeting, reporting & record keeping across both companies.

You will play a vital in supporting the qualification of investment and market opportunities, potential M&A and helping access future funding for growth as well as being responsible for overall finance and accounting operations. You will prepare and present monthly reports to management board.

In summary you’ll have the chance to look after both the day-to-day and big-picture finance activities that the companies will come across as they grow. Your role will have a direct impact on the business, and you’ll help shape strategic company decisions as well as ensure that ledgers accurately reflect money coming in and out of both companies.

You will report to the Chairman of the group and have a dotted line to the CEOs of the companies. You will be an important business partner to the commercial and operational functions of each business.

We are looking for:

Leadership and Communication

• You will attend weekly management meetings and attend monthly board meetings.
• Expectations are for an experienced and structured finance professional who can work collaboratively and communicate effectively with the wider team.
• You will develop and implement finance structures that support our efficiency and future growth.

Vision & Strategy

• On joining the team, you will contribute to strategic discussions and challenge assumptions with financial data points and modelling. You will assist with new market and product investment analysis and relook at our pricing strategy and modelling.

Proposition

• With your experience in finance, you will contribute to our market proposition evolution and go-to market strategies . You will also assist in the analysis (from a finance perspective) of our sales & marketing efforts.

Commercial

• As our Financial Controller you will support the commercial and operation teams with a robust & efficient finance process that minimizes the time from proposal to PO to revenue in the bank. You will work with our CEOs and Chairman to model future sales and cash flow and to perform sensitivity analyses.

Product

• You will evaluate new market initiatives from the view of future financial revenue and accessing new revenue streams.

HR

• You will support all HR admin functions including running payroll, holidays and leaver and joiner processes and maintaining company contracts and handbook.

Capital investment appraisal

• You will support decisions to invest in new equipment and dispose of old stock

KPIs, Budgets and incentives

• You will work with the board to set KPIs, budgets and design the right incentives to drive understanding and aligned behaviour

Finance function

• You will be comfortable undertaking day to day bookkeeping tasks and manage payments
• Run credit control to minimise aged debtors
• Produce management accounts
• Work with our accountants to deliver yearly accounts
• Manage VAT reporting
• R&D and grants
• You will identify and support business efforts to secure funding via grants and R&D
• Drive interaction between activities
• You will drive opportunities for synergies between the two companies via a common back office covering – staffing, overhead costs, processes, stock, cross-selling

Support Growth

• This will involve analysis of growth opportunities
• Maximising use of existing assets
• Further acquisitions
• Funding requirements and options
• Provision of historic and forecast financial information to reassure lenders

The Candidate

The ideal candidate will be educated to degree level, will have proven Financial Controller/Manager experience and ideally in have an interest in live events and creative industries. The candidate will show an appetite and desire to be a steward (managing risk) , operator (managing the finance operations) , strategist (helping shape the future) and catalyst (helping drive action) across the business.

As the ideal candidate, you will show;

• The energy and drive to deliver as we go through a significant growth phase
• An ability to be flexible and adapt in a rapidly changing market
• Run and automate where possible the basic finance functions
• The ability to create reports and data analytics that are well presented, and effectively
• communicate information needed to make fast and effective changes at all levels of the company.
• Experience of preparing board reporting packages and presentations that illustrate a well thought-out story backed by data points and metrics.
• Experiencing building financial models, forecasts and sensitivity analyses
• Experience identifying, acquiring and implementing systems and software to support finance operations. – including ensuring the best use of xero
• A love of data and ability to propose strategies backed by well-thought-out analysis for increasing revenue and reducing costs.
• A desire to work in a collaborative environment where the culture still feels like family and where your work will have a genuine impact.
• An ability to create a structure where needed, but are comfortable with the uncertainty and fast-paced nature of growing and dynamic companies in ever changing sectors.

The role will allow for flexible working from home but ideally you would look to spend at least one day a week at Entec’s office in Northolt as well as at Chameleon’s office in Milton Keynes.

Part-time hours: 24 per week
