Purpose
To provide specialist management accounting services to ensure Council meets its statutory obligations under the
Local Government Act 2009, the Local Government Regulation 2012 and other legislative obligations.
Key responsibilities
Management Accounting
Prepare the statutory financial report in accordance with Section 204 Local Government Regulation 2012 for
authorisation by the Director and the Chief Executive Officer.
Contribute to the development of monthly management reports/performance reports including exception analysis.
Actively manage Council’s investments (daily as required) including reconciliation of Council’s Investment
Register (monthly).
Oversee the preparation of Council’s Diesel Fuel Rebate Claim (monthly).
Oversee the preparation and reconciliation of the Business Activity Statement (BAS) (monthly).
Oversee the preparation of the GST claim and remittance in relation to Council’s Salary Sacrifice arrangements
(managed by RemServ).
Manage and reconcile Council’s Loan Register (monthly).
Prepare Council’s Fringe Benefit Tax (FBT) return (if applicable) and ensure that source documentation and data
is accurate.
Oversee the calculation, lodgment, and remittance of Council’s payroll tax obligation to the Office of State
Revenue (monthly).
Manage and reconcile Council’s Trust Register (monthly).
Prepare/review accounting and acquittal statements for funding received by Council.
B udget Preparation
Assist with the preparation and coordination of Council’s annual budget including associated documentation, as
well as revised budgets during the financial year – in conjunction with the Program Funding & Budget
Coordinator.
Assist and support the Senior Management Team in the preparation of their annual and revised budgets.
Annual Financial Statements
Assist with the preparation of Council’s annual financial statements in accordance with all statutory financial
reporting obligations and comply with all relevant / current accounting standards.
Financial Function
Contribute to expenditure reviews to identify opportunities for savings.
Provide relevant, accurate and timely financial reporting information to the elected Council, the Executive
Leadership Team and statutory bodies as requested.
Provide advice on legislative and regulatory compliance and current accounting, financial and budget practice to
meet organisational needs.
Assist in reviewing Payroll calculations for termination payments and large backpay payments for accuracy.
Review and update finance policies as required.
Financial Systems
Ensure financial software systems used by Council are maintained for optimum performance and functionality.
Ensure all accounting systems function with integrity and outputs meet deadlines.
Asset Accounting
Assist in reviewing asset accounting in relation to asset capitalisations to ensure correct accounting treatment of
acquisitions, disposals, and write-offs.
Special Projects
Undertake exception reporting and monitoring to ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial activities e.g.
payroll.
Undertake projects and tasks within scope of knowledge, skills and abilities as required.
Customer service
Provide friendly and professional service to internal and external stakeholders via phone, email, and face to face.
Respond to all customer requests and queries in accordance with Council’s Customer Service Charter and
relevant policies and procedures.
O ther
Undertake duties within the skill level, competence and training, consistent with the applicable level within the
Award, in any area of Council as required.
Assume the accountabilities and responsibilities of the role and delegations for the position.

About the person
Qualifications and licences
Mandatory and highly desirable qualifications and licences
To be successful you will need to demonstrate that you will be able to meet the below mandatory requirements for the
role:
Current C (Car) Class Driver Licence (mandatory).
Degree with study and experience in the discipline of accounting / business / commerce / finance (or other related
field of study) (mandatory).
Membership of an accounting body or willingness to work towards fulfilling the requirements for membership
within an agreed period of time (mandatory).
Required skills and experience
To be successful in this role you will have:
Knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and Local Government Act 2009 and Local Government
Regulation 2012.

Previous experience working in a local government environment will be highly regarded but is not essential.
