Primary Purpose:
The purpose of the Mentor Coordinator is to match at-risk students with one-to-one mentors who provide academic support and guidance; to collaborate with existing extended day/year academic assistance; to provide case management services, community-based prevention and outreach. The worker will work closely with the school principals and counselors but will report to the Chief of Communications. This role will also assist with preparation of written materials for district publications.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor degree required with emphasis in social work, psychology, and or education. Two or more years experience in mentoring, youth development, or communications, working within community organizations and/or schools preferred. Strong organizational, writing, verbal and interpersonal skills. Creativity and flexibility are essential in assuming significant responsibility. Experience working in racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse communities preferred.

§ Establish and maintain accurate records and files.
§ Accurately assess student learning levels and needs.
§ Prepare routine reports and correspondence.
§ Demonstrated skills in writing, proofreading, and editing.
§ Develop, implement, and coordinate events to promote Project Mentor.
§ Ability to meet established deadlines.
§ Quickly identify problem areas or situations, evaluate problems causes, and take appropriate action to resolve problems identified.
§ Establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.
§ Exercise tact, diplomacy, and sensitivity to changing situations and needs.
