Responsibilities
Mainspring is growing rapidly and transitioning to mass production of its revolutionary linear generator. In this role, you will be instrumental in developing suppliers of precision mechanical components. As a Supplier Development Engineer, you will partner with suppliers, internal stakeholders, and contract manufacturers to develop robust production systems, partnerships, and strategies for long term success.
To succeed in this role, you must combine strong technical skills with good knowledge of manufacturing, lean manufacturing, quality, and have the necessary interpersonal skills to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- Own the technical manufacturing processes for critical mechanical components
- Lead early supplier engagement
- Build strong relationships with critical suppliers
- Drive supplier selection and supply strategy in critical components
- Develop supplier capabilities for cost, quality, capacity, and process improvement
- Lead design for manufacturing (DFM) activities in partnering with internal stakeholders such as design engineering to provide feedback and make improvements
- Develop robust should-cost models and drive suppliers to best total cost
- Become subject matter expert for capacity, cost, and quality
Qualifications
- Travel: 50% domestic and international
- Thorough understanding of quality methods including SPC, gaging, PPAP, MPAP, etc.
- Extensive knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
- Knowledge of supply chain management
- Familiarity with manufacturing costing and industrial coating technologies
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- 3+ years’ experience managing supplier relationships
- Comprehensive shop floor experience in machining, casting, metal coatings, weldings, sheet metal, and assembly preferred
- English fluency required, Spanish fluency a plus
- Degree requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field and/or equivalent experience with 5 years’ experience
Or
- Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field and/or equivalent experience with 8 years’ experience
The Bay Area salary for this role is $115k-$178k base + pre-IPO stock options + benefits. This position is hybrid or remote. The salary will be adjusted to reflect local market conditions based on employee location as well as the experience of the employee. (#Mogul)
