This represents a unique opportunity to gain experience of Medical Education in both a large NHS Trust and a Medical School.
The post will involve working with dynamic teams to establish and deliver innovative and integrated programmes for NHS Medical Trainees and Undergraduates.
The Trust has 395 trainees at Foundation, Core, GPST and Higher Specialty levels. Training programmes are monitored through Local Faculty Groups and the Local Academic Board in which Trainee Representatives play the most important role. Programmes are also monitored through Health Education Kent Surrey and Sussex quality assurance process and the General Medical Council (GMC) through the National Trainee Survey (NTS).
The post holder will be involved in both Postgraduate and Undergraduate Education within the Trust with a wide range of duties as detailed in the job description.
In addition, they will spend one day a week at KMMS working along aside Faculty to implement and develop the clinical and professional skills curriculum to Year 1 and 2 medical students.
The Medical Education Department is responsible for the provision and quality control of Postgraduate and Undergraduate programmes to meet national requirements for training, with the wider purpose of improving standards of patient care.
There are 395 Trainees working in the Trust. The Trust currently also provides Undergraduate placements for King’s College London Medical School Year 4 and 5 students and Year 5 students from St George’s Medical School. Year 3 KMMS Students will be joining the Trust in October 2022.
This is an exciting opportunity for the region and the Trust. The Medical Education team are working closely with the Medical School and with specialties to develop quality training programmes for these students. The Education Fellow would play an important role in the continued development and delivery of teaching to both Postgraduates and Undergraduates within the Trust and at KMMS.
A specific work plan and objectives would be agreed with the Director of Medical Education for the year. This will include dedicated time to undertake an on-line Clinical Education PG Cert with Edinburgh University. The PG Cert will be funded and the Educational Fellow will also be provided with a study leave budget for continued professional development. You will be encouraged to undertake research in medical education and aim to present your research and innovative ideas at local and national meetings and events. There will be opportunities to attend Human Factors, Debriefing and Leadership training during the year.
The Education Fellow will have a named educational supervisor / mentor for their role. There will be formal educational oversight of the role, with an educational agreement, personal development plan and regular appraisal.
