Magna International Inc Hiring for Sr. Mechanical Engineer Full Time

Role Summary

Magna is seeking a highly motivated Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the New Mobility group in Boston, MA. This engineer will take a lead role in mechanical development of autonomous robots and new mobility projects to move goods and people – generating and evaluating innovative concepts, building and testing designs, and launching them into production.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable working with minimal supervision to meet defined program objectives and milestones in an environment where they will be given the freedom to innovate, explore new methods and solutions. Key Responsibilities

• Development of mechanical requirements for robotic mobility projects.
• Design:
  • Requirements analysis, Mechanical architecture development, component design and assembly management
  • In depth analysis, simulation, development of design documentation (3D models, 2D drawings, ME/EE interface, DFMEA)
  • Optimization of design for cost, manufacturability and quality
  • Mechanical integration of PCBAs and sensors (e.g. radar, lidar, cameras, etc.)
  • Thermal management, design and analysis of electronic assemblies
  • Electronic enclosure sealing design and testing
  • Completing detailed designs in CAD (Solidworks or CATIA preferred) sufficient for manufacture
• Prototyping and Testing:
  • Verify mechanical requirements at component and assembly level testing.
  • Support design, fabrication and build of test set-ups and test equipment used by design and test engineering groups.
  • Support building, modifying and verifying of engineering prototype samples,
  • Support ED, DV, PV testing by conducting tests and documenting results as needed.
• Interface with cross-functional teams in-person and remotely
• Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives. Ensures that facilities are in full compliance with all safety regulations.
• Follows safe work procedures; Uses appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE); Uses workplace tools and equipment as instructed; s workplace hazards, injuries and illness as soon as possible following event.

Key Qualifications/Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent (Master’s preferred).
• 6+ years’ relevant experience regarding the Responsibility/ Activities in serial development.
• Experience with related robotic and vehicle systems.
• Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects; requires good time management and organizational skills to meet stringent deadlines.
• Knowledge in mechanical design, development, and testing of robotic or mechatronic systems.
• Knowledge of structural and thermal design methodologies.
• Knowledge in mechanical analysis techniques (first order through CAE).
• Hands on experience building proof-of-concept models and prototypes.
• Knowledge of low to high volume manufacturing methods.
• Knowledge in mechanical product development process.
• Troubleshooting and debugging skills.
• Working knowledge of common laboratory equipment.
• Knowledge of testing techniques.

Additional Information

• Normal amount of sitting or standing, average mobility to move around an office environment, able to conduct normal amount of work at a computer.
• Hybrid in-office policy:3 days in office per week.
• Domestic and international travel of ~10%.
