Machines With Vision (MWV) is a fast-growing technology company developing a transformational mapping solution for use in the rail industry and beyond. Along with long-distance railways, metros and light rail systems are the foundation of city transportation and are critical to addressing climate change. Building and maintaining railways is expensive but ripe for digital transformation.

We are based in Edinburgh, UK but support hydrid/remote working and over the last 5 years we have developed our key technology from proof-of-concepts and prototypes into a commercially deployed solution with a major national operator.

Role

As part of the company growth we are looking to hire a capable engineer who has experience of GIS based visualisation and dashboarding to help us bring customer data to life.

This would suit an enthusiastic and pragmatic individual experienced in GIS and data dashboarding. We have a start-up culture and are looking to appoint someone who is a self-starter with a can-do attitude. There will be many interesting challenges and this role will best suit someone who relishes the potential opportunities, and satisfaction in solving them.

Responsibilities

• You will allow us to increase our use of industry standard tools to handle GIS integration.
• You will be responsible for writing software to enable customer data to be visualised.
• You will work closely with the cloud platform to understand and integrate with the data.

Required

• Fundamental GIS background and ability to bring data to the fore.
• Familiarity with a wide variety of tools in this ecosystem (e.g. QGIS, ArcGIS).
• Deep understanding of underlying data sources (e.g. databases, GeoServer).
• Knowledge of modern dashboarding frameworks and tooling (e.g. Tableau)
• Excellent Python programming background.

Preferred

• Previous work in start-ups or similar early-stage company.
• Experience working in or alongside an agile development team.
• Experience of the rail or transport infrastructure industries.
