MacDermid Graphics Solutions is a supplier of consumable materials used to transfer images on to consumer packaging materials, our products are used to improve print quality and printing productivity. We produce and market photopolymers through an extensive line of flexographic plates that are used in the consumer packaging and printing industries. Photopolymers are molecules that change properties upon exposure to light.

Job Purpose

• To provide a full generalist HR service for all employees at the Wigan site, supporting the HR Lead for the UK and wider HR team to deliver the HR strategy. This role has to effectively work across all disciplines providing a broad and comprehensive HR service within corporate policy guidelines, to ensure that the highest quality of employees are recruited, trained and retained. The job holder will also be required to provide additional HR support to our Birmingham site (MacDermid Performance Solutions) and will be expected to travel there at least once a month. Working on some wider strategic UK and European projects will also be expected.
• To work with the wider HR, Talent and Payroll teams to ensure accurate, smooth and timely HR transactions and assist in the development of programmes, systems and procedures.
• To provide a high quality, proactive HR support service to the HR function, employees and line managers, in line with current legislation and the needs of the business.

The role is based at our site in Wigan (MacDermid Graphics Solutions, WN2) but will also provide much needed support to our site Birmingham (MaDermid Performance Solutions, B11). The workload split is expected to be 80% Wigan and 20% Birmingham with an expectation that the job holder spends a minimum of 1 day a month in Birmingham. Travel expenses will be paid by the company.

Job Responsibilities

As a Company we feel that we work better when we are together so the role is site based. However, we also understand the need for flexibility so the job holder may request hybrid working up to 1 day per week at home. Core working hours may also be flexible.

• Provide first line HR support to resolve HR related queries ensuring a timely and professional response. Including being the central point of contact/action for the majority of activities relating to starters, leavers, resourcing and recruitment, and employee relations activities
• Responsible for ensuring that the company is working in full compliance with current employment law legislation and best practice
• Advise managers and employees on company procedures and precedent, such as the interpretation of policies and on employment legislation
• Work in conjunction with the various local organisations and their local representative forums coordination and execution of legal and best practice regulations
• Ensure application of a fair employment environment so as to promote the organisation as an employer of choice
• Maintain and update the company’s HR procedures ensuring that they are disseminated, understood and applied consistently across functions/departments/sites
• Proactive management and maintenance of the various key activities including Electronic Personnel Files, internal people management systems, data gathering and reporting
• Providing information to Payroll ensuring communication in an accurate and timely manner and in line with any specific legal requirements
• Support managers in providing best practice guidance regarding conducting performance reviews and objective setting and identify training needs
• Counsel line management when dealing with disciplinary or grievance problems, in order to provide them with the support and guidance they require
• Coordinate internal training and coaching using the most effective training methods and suppliers to meet relevant business goals and retain employees
• Proactively manage the leaving process to ensure all leavers have an exit interview in order to gather data
• Arrange and coordinate all training activities locally in conjunction with business requirements
• Any other ad hoc activities as and when required including deputising for the HR Lead UK

Other Requirements

• Ideally you will have a CIPD L5 qualification as a minimum, or be working towards
• At least 2 years experience in a manufacturing setting is preferable, at least at a Senior HR Advisor level
