Loretto Hiring for Director of Clinical Nutrition **7,500 Sign On Bonus** Full Time

Responsibilities:

Resident/Client Care

• Performs required nutritional assessments.
• Maintains adequate follow up for high nutritional risk residents/participants.
• Performs required tube feeding, weight loss, initial, and skin assessments.
• Writes tube-feeding orders and makes recommendations to MD/NP.
• Generates and updates resident care plan. Ensures nutrition care plan is integrated into the interdisciplinary care plan.
• Addresses all acute clinical issues per policy.
• Addresses all nutritionally pertinent lab values.
• Coordinates intake studies. May monitor dietary intake of assigned residents through observation at meal times.
• Participates actively on health care teams to provide observation and assessment regarding physical, mental, nutritional and psychosocial status of residents.
• Follows-up with food service to ensure diets ordered by the physician are included in the meal plan.
• Provides diet counseling to residents, resident families, friends and staff regarding dietary restrictions.
• Coordinates swallowing evaluations with Speech Therapy.
• Reviews and assesses hospital discharge packet, interviews families/care givers and recommends diet requirements on initial admission into facility/program.
• Completes data entry for diet pattern and preferences upon admission.
• Maintains resident profiles in the dining software system (i.e. Meal Tracker).
• Completes MDS manuals.
• Coordinates distribution and verification of resident’s menu selection in accordance with personal preference and dietetic regimes.
• Assists with menu planning through provision of feedback from residents and observed plate waste.
• Provides on-call weekend coverage.

Employee Development

• Assists and coaches Diet Technicians (DTs) with clinical assessments.
• Maintains continuing education credits by attending seminars and training sessions. Shares information with staff.
• Provides education to other departments regarding dietary services.
• Trains, or oversees the training of, newly hired Registered Dietitians (RDs) and DTs.
• Provides cross-coverage for RDs when needed.
• Acts as preceptor to dietetic students from area colleges/universities.

Quality Assurance

• Participates in mock regulatory survey activities.
• Participates in Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (QAPI) activities and conducts audits as assigned.
• Attends rounds and participates on committees or in meetings.

Compliance

• Complies with State and Federal safety, health and sanitary regulations.
• Ensures Nutritional Department understands and follows all policies and procedures, and that all pertinent regulatory guidelines are met.
• Completes documentation as required. Audits documentation for accuracy and completion. Provides correction and education as appropriate.

• As a Director, this individual has full responsibility for an organization-wide function or service.

Qualifications:

• A or B.S in Dietetics from an accredited AND (Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics) academic institution.
• 7+ years clinical experience, preferably in a long-term care experience.
• 5+ years supervisory experience in a similar capacity.
• Registered Dietitian in good standing with current membership in AND (Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics).
• Knowledge of DOH and related state/federal regulations.
• Skilled in clinical assessment and care plan completion.
• Knowledge of Electronic Medical Records desired.
• Proven organizational skills.
• Proven ability to lead, guide and motivate others.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Outstanding interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively with clients, residents, and families from diverse backgrounds who may have physical, sensory and mental impairments.
• Computer competency.
