ROLE DESCRIPTION:

Dean of School Operations

Purpose of the Position

The Dean of School Operations is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the

School and whole school planning and logistics. This role oversees the creation and maintenance

of the school calendar, school timetable and determines staffing requirements to inform timetable

development.

Organisational responsibilities

The position reports to the Deputy Principal and works in close collaboration with other members

of the School’s Leadership Team and all Deans of the School. The position also works closely with

the Learning Office and the HR Team. The Dean of School Operations is a member of the Events

and Calendar Team (ECT).

Requisite Knowledge, Skills and Personal Attributes

• Qualified and experienced teacher
• High level of interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication skills
• Experience in a school leadership position and/or experience in organising and managing

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

in the completion of risk assessments, also ensuring COVID safe plans have been

developed when planning excursions, incursions and school events

Teacher recruitment and loads

• Ongoing consultation with Director of Learning and Heads of Department to determine

staffing requirements to inform timetable and recruitment (in consultation with HR and the

Deputy Principal)

• Develop and present models of the allocation of teaching loads of Year 5-12 staff in

consultation with the Principal, Deputy Principal, Director of Learning and Head of Primary

• Monitor and track staff allocation and teacher load, including Extra-Curricular and

allocation to camps, retreats and immersions

• Oversee teaching staff absences for illness, excursions or other reasons, and the allocation

of supply and casuals required as a result

• Allocate staff to duties for special events, in consultation with other relevant staff (eg,

Directors, Deans and/or Events staff)

Processes

• Develop procedures and procedural documents, to support efficient and effective

practices across the School’s operations

• Champion and lead the implementation of new systems, particularly those that relate to

school operations

Leadership

• Execute strategic projects as identified within annual priorities of the School’s strategic

plan and key result areas

• Contribute to the broad leadership of the School, including being a strong presence across

school events and daily operations

• Identify needs, initiate change and facilitate innovation in all areas pertaining to school

logistics so as to ensure ongoing whole school improvements

• The Learning Assistant reports directly to this role
• Any other duties as directed by the Deputy Principal
• Practising teacher (reduced load)
