Logan City Council Hiring for Policy Officer – Abandoned and Derelict Houses at Australia Full Time

This Policy Officer role is required to undertake detailed research to determine the extent of the issue of abandoned and derelict houses in the City of Logan, which will subsequently inform the development of policy reform options for Council consideration to determine how best to address this arising issue. The ultimate goal of the position is to assist in achieving increased levels of amenity and safety and improved city image for the Logan community. The role functions in an autonomous capacity within defined guidelines, policies and procedures and is able to achieve outcomes with limited direction.

Elements Of The Role Include

• Effectively undertake research relating to abandoned and derelict houses, to understand and identify trends, emerging issues and the scale of the problem at both a macro (i.e. worldwide, Australia wide) and micro level (i.e. Logan community).
• Define the scope of addressing abandoned and derelict houses at a local government level, including strategic alignment within Logan City Council and linkages to existing Council policies, plans and strategies.
• Define the alignment of addressing abandoned and derelict housing with existing legislation and ensure all proposed solutions operate within this legislation.
• Prepare a detailed project plan to guide and direct the successful execution of research and development of policy reform options relating to abandoned and derelict houses.
• Execute the project to its conclusion in accordance with the parameters stated in the project plan, making allowances for changes where necessary.
• Maintain knowledge of current best-practice project management tools and methodologies.

Minimum Requirements Of The Role Include

• Degree qualifiications in public administration, policy development or a related discipline.
• Extensive experience in a complex business or government environment as it relates to research and policy development.
• Demonstrated skills in project management, including in the development of thorough project plans.
• Demonstrated skills in research and driving the development of policy, with the ability to think strategically and innovatively about the challenges posed by, and solutions for addressing abandoned and derelict houses.
• Demonstrated ability to navigate and interpret complex legislation. Knowledge of the Building Act 1975, Public Health Act 2005, Local Government Act 2009, Council’s local laws and associated codes, standards and regulations highly regarded
