About the role

Working closely with the AIR6500 Technical Lead, you will be actively leading the agile development of complex technical solutions. This position holds responsibility for the development of project software related deliverables, ensuring all technical and quality requirements are met. You will also utilise your outstanding communication skills through your work with the customers and the wider team.

About the Program

AIR6500 is the RAAF’s $3 billion program to develop a Joint Air Battle Management System that maximises the sensor capabilities offered by 5th Gen systems. AIR6500 will create a fully networked ‘system of systems’ that synchronises air and missile defence operations in joint and coalition environments, maximising situational awareness and enhancing the speed of decision making across the battlespace.

We’re looking for a proactive, solutions orientated self-starter who enjoys the challenge of working on large, complex programs to join our AIR6500 team as a Staff Software Engineer.

In terms of some key responsibilities, you will:

• Actively lead the agile development of complex technical solutions
• Provide problem resolution during the conduct of software development
• Work with customers to identify, analyse, select and apply concepts, technologies and techniques
• Develop software requirements, design and test rationale
• Provide integration and testing of products
• Support, development and mentoring of junior engineering staff
• Provide implementation of code and unit testing
• Solution project technical issues within an agile team environment

As well as your superior communication and organisational skills, you will ideally hold a tertiary qualification in a related discipline from a recognised institution, and/or equivalent suitable experience (preferably within the defence industry).

To be successful in this role you will have:

• Extensive knowledge of the Software Engineering process
• Substantial understanding of the overall engineering product lifecycle
• Advanced experience in software engineering methodologies and techniques preferably in a web-based development domain
• Proven experience in technical leadership of small teams to successful system outcomes
• Excellent complex problem solving ability
• Significant experience with JavaScript and Python
• Agile software development and team leading experience
• Experience with Cloud Orchestration platforms (Kubernetes)

Travel to interstate locations may be required in compliance with current restrictions.

Applicants are required to be Australian Citizens and ideally hold a current or reinstatable NV1 Defence Security Clearance or be eligible to obtain and maintain clearance to NV1 level.
