In Transforming Branches we’re committed to continuing to deliver a leading customer experience in our branch network. Within the Branch Service Lab, we seek to re-imagine the future of the branch as a place where customers come for help and guidance with their complex needs, where they can choose when and how they are seen, and to enable our colleagues to build trust and deepen relationships.
We have embarked on a transformation program to improve our capabilities as a team and transform our ways of working as we work to develop the Bank of the Future.
What will I focus on?
What follows is a selection of what you might find yourself doing on an average day in the lab, but your experience will depend on the team’s needs as well as your own aspirations. Our goal is to help you develop in a way that fulfils you, and create an environment where you can do what you enjoy.
  • Work as a software engineer within an Agile development team, and being comfortable working with on and offshore team organisations.
  • Working within our labs involves a flexible mix of face to face and occasional home working. We’ve invested heavily in tools to allow flexible working.
  • Be part of a team helping to renew our legacy technology applications onto a more modern architecture.
  • Integrating new cloud technology into legacy systems.
  • Automating tests, builds, and deployments.
  • Helping to diagnose and fix any live problems and spot any risks to live services.
  • Working collaboratively across multiple labs and teams to help contribute by experimenting with new tools, methods, and approaches.
What are we looking for from our applicants?
We believe that people don’t fit accurately into roles, and we value everyone’s individual skills, experience, and knowledge.
To be seriously considered we would need to see proven experience of one or more of the following skill sets, either;
  • Microservices with Javascript and Node
  • Front end applications using React
  • Microservices using Java & Spring.
  • Modern Devops toolsets such as Jenkins, Github, and container technology such as Docker and Kubernetes within a cloud environment such as AWS, GCP or Azure.
  • Ability to work across different platforms and technologies.
  • A passion and interest for software engineering and desire to progress to be a senior engineer.
Any software development within cloud environments would be an advantage but not a pre-requisite to applying.
