The Director, IT Operations will be responsible for managing and evolving our internal system infrastructure to align with our long-term business requirement. We are seeking candidates with a successful track record executing IT strategy and the ability to manage both individual contributors as well as team leads. Ideal candidates will be able to “roll up their sleeves” and directly contribute to the successful execution of the team’s initiatives.
In addition, the role will be responsible for building and maintaining a 24x7x365 systems operating environment with industry leading platforms, tools, monitoring, and reporting capabilities to enable efficient and effective operations of IT services. Services will include alert, triage and routing capabilities as necessary to ensure timely responsiveness and resolution to events and incidents. The IT Operations lead will identify key operational metrics and performance indicators that will adhere to operational target standards based on industry definitions of high availability (99.9%) platforms, infrastructure, systems and applications. The role will also drive adequate planning, provisioning, execution, and annual testing of Disaster Recovery and IT Business Continuity services. Lastly, this leader will own and manage all IT Risk Operations, Compliance, Regulatory, and Audit Controls to ensure effective protection, prevention, and action as required to threats within the environment. The function will also maintain monthly operating scorecard with defined operational metrics, and define ongoing operational improvements and efficiencies that align to business planning forecasts and initiatives.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Provide leadership and mentorship to a range of functions within the IT Operations Department (Infrastructure and Helpdesk)
Responsible for the integrity of the work created by the teams. Strong leadership qualities are critical to leading and mentoring the team in the pursuit of delivering this service, scaling our teams and processes.
Identify and infuse organizational metrics to continuously hold your teams accountable to high levels of performance.
Manage IT staff by recruiting, training and coaching employees, communicating job expectations and appraising their performance. Act in alignment with user needs and system functionality to develop and guide organizational policy
Design, develop, implement and coordinate systems, policies and procedures. Audit systems and assess their outcomes. Ensure security of data, network access and backup systems. Identify problematic areas and implement strategic solutions in time
Handle annual budget and ensure cost effectiveness
Engage 3rd party providers for geographic and/or application support as required.
Escalate problems (when required) to the CIO
Collaborate with agencies and other vendor partners
Research and evaluate various technologies to meet business requirements
Be strategic – identify opportunities to continuously improve IT infrastructure
Experience & Skills Required
Proven working experience as an IT Director or Manager or relevant experience
Excellent knowledge of technical management, information analysis and of computer hardware/software systems
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to build strong collaborative partnerships across functional lines and at many levels within the company.
Experience leading a technical team
Exceptional project and account management skills
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Strong time-management skills
Ability to establish and meet schedules
Great Team Player
Post-secondary in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
Infrequent travel throughout Canada required
