At L3Harris, in our Intelligence & Cyber International (ICI) division, we work closely with UK Government and Security Agencies to shape and build cutting-edge solutions that combat the ever-evolving threats faced by the public and private sectors on a daily basis.

We have opportunities for Software Engineering Industrial Placement students to join us for a 12-month duration and provide input to the design, implementation and testing of embedded and application software projects in a real-world engineering environment. These placements offer fantastic opportunities to develop skills in technical and professional areas, gain an understanding of working environments and valuable experience whilst making a difference.

What the role will involve

If you join our team of dedicated experts, the responsibilities of your role will include the following:

• Design, development and implementation of software, primarily in C++ but also other languages such as Python, Rust and Java for real-time embedded applications.
• Documentation of design specifications and implementation details, with guidance.
• Obtaining an appreciation of the system as a whole in order to provide the most effective and appropriate software solution.
• Working as part of a team (including Systems, Hardware and Software Engineers) to discuss system designs, interfaces and protocols to identify and implement solutions.
• Integration of developed software on the target hardware with other system components and firmware.
• Devising appropriate test procedures, both informal and informal, to prove the correct operation of software.

What you’ll bring

The role of Software Industrial Placement requires the following experience and skills:

• A minimum of 3 A-Levels (or equivalent qualification) with grades of A, B, C or above (including Maths)
• Pursuing a degree in either Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Science or Physics with a predicted final grade of 2:1 or 1st
• A passion for engineering and technology and a desire for a rewarding career in the engineering and technology industry
