Who We Look For: The ideal candidate for the Education Manager position is passionate about STEAM education, museum interpretation, African American history and culture, serving immigrant and BIPOC children, cultivating relationships with K-12 teachers and families. The candidate should possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and be at ease with communicating with teachers, parents, and other stakeholders in schools. We are looking for someone who is acquainted with the public and private educational systems. Responsibilities:

• Refine existing curriculum and lesson plans to be more teacher-friendly and ensure their alignment with the New York State Standards, Department of Education (DOE)’s Scope and Sequence, and other up-to-date best standards. These include curriculum for both short- and long-term educational programs focusing on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, & Math), history, and social studies.

• Plan, organize, and document the museum’s educational programs at the direction of the Executive Director. Current programs include K-12 field trips, in-school residencies, after-school programs, and weekend family workshops (virtual and in-person), in collaboration with the Program Liaison and the Communications Manager.

• Help identify strategic goals for the above educational programs and evaluate them against these goals, through surveys as well as data collection and analysis; draft annual educational program report.

• Lead tours, teach K-12 and family workshops when needed.

• Coordinate billing with school partners and other partner organizations.

• Identify outreach opportunities and conduct outreach activities to promote and expand existing educational programs, such as attending and presenting at school fairs, PTA meetings, teachers’ professional development days, and other community gatherings.

• Build and maintain relationships with teachers and schools, superintendent’s offices, DOE, and other stakeholders and partners, to ensure LLHM’s programs serve their needs.

• Recruit, vet, manage, and support teaching artists and per diem educators, including but not limited to timely collection of contract agreements and invoices, as well as evaluating their performances.

• Train, support, and supervise educational interns and volunteers.

• Assist with other public programs and development efforts related to educational initiatives, and attend meetings on behalf of the museum as assigned by the Executive Director.

Qualifications:

• Degree in an education-related field and at least two years of professional experience in a similar role, or minimum of four years’ experience working in a similar role.

• Must have high familiarity with the NYC school system and working with school teachers, knowledge of New York State Learning Standards, and experience in curriculum development for informal education.

• Exceptional written and oral communication skills, comfortable interacting with teachers, school administrators, and teaching artists.

• Technology savvy, strong fluency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office Suite applications, familiar with children’s coding programs.

• Able to work on occasional weekends and evenings for special events and workshops if needed.

• Organizational skills and punctuality are essential to this position, so are the willingness to learn and a strong initiative to lead.

• Strong attention to detail is a must. Independent problem-solving skills are highly desired.

• Passionate about STEAM education, Black history and culture, and bringing educational resources to BIPOC communities.

• Experience teaching STEM/STEAM is preferred.

• Comfort with developing positive, effective relationships with colleagues, educators, interns, and the constituents is critical.

Job Type:

This role is a full-time permanent position, with paid time off and an annual salary of $52,000-$60,000, commensurate with experience. Hybrid position with both virtual and in-person work. Must be available for weekly virtual staff meetings and attending in-person educational programs during the week and occasionally on weekends (approximately 1-2 per month) or weekday evenings. Staff parking is available on site.
