Leonardo UK Looking for Test Engineer at Yeovil, Somerset Full Time

This Test Engineer role is within the Helicopters division of the company situated in the country town of Yeovil, Somerset. Yeovil is close to a number of big Cities (Exeter, Bristol, Bath) and is surrounded by some of the finest countryside and beaches in the UK.

The Leonardo Helicopters Structural Test Laboratory performs critical strength testing and sub-system testing of new aircraft designs that is required for Civil and Military certification. The Structural Test Laboratory is responsible for performing all aspects of the testing from preliminary discussions on test feasibility, through the test rig design and manufacture, to the set up and execution of the test.

This exciting position is focused on the fuel system testing that is integrated within our Structural Test Laboratory. It will allow you to work with a broad spectrum of Engineering and Manufacturing disciplines and enable you to enhance your technical skills whilst also combining a hands on approach to Engineering.

Key Responsibility Areas

As a Test Engineer your key responsibilities will be:

• Conduct fuel system tests in the Laboratory, including reviewing test plans, developing project schedules, setting up and executing the tests, and reporting.
• Conduct calibrations, troubleshooting and data analysis as necessary in support of the tests.
• Liaise with the fuel system technical specialists and authorities as necessary.
• Develop and maintain Health and Safety / Risk Assessments for the fuel test activity.

Skills, Qualification & Knowledge Required

• Degree or HND equivalent in a relevant subject (eg- Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering or similar engineering, science or mathematics subject).

Experience in the following is an advantage but training can be provided.

• Knowledge and experience in testing techniques including experience in the areas of:
• Fuel system component testing
• Fault finding / problem solving together with other Engineering departments
• Experience in test instrumentation, data acquisition, data logging and data handling techniques
• Practical understanding of working safely with fuels
• Practical understanding of DSEAR regulations, and associated ATEX equipment used in test environments
