Leonardo UK Looking for E3/ EMC Engineer at Yeovil, Somerset Full Time

Leonardo Helicopter Division currently have a vacancy for an Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3)/Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Engineer at our Yeovil site, in Somerset.

At Leonardo Helicopters we are responsible for the design of the complete air vehicle and working within the team you will have the ability to participate in all phases of the product design life cycle from participating in leading edge innovation to supporting ageing aircraft.

As part of the E3 team you will support the design, verification & compliance demonstration of helicopters. This includes the initial design of system installations through to supporting trials programmes and product qualification, across a range of helicopter platforms encompassing conventional helicopters, tilt rotors and unmanned air systems. Our team supports the UK, Italian and US geographies so although based in the UK, there is the opportunity to work on our full product range.

Key Responsibility Areas

As part of the E3 team you will support the activities required to design, develop and qualify helicopters and system installations in response to customer requirements and certification regulations.

This will involve design for E3/EMC within multi-disciplinary project teams, review and collation of vendor qualification data, supporting varied E3/EMC helicopter trials and compiling evidence in support of certification/ qualification.

Skills, Qualification & Knowledge Required

To perform the role you will work well in a team, be flexible and you will have:

• Knowledge and experience in the engineering design and development of aerospace products (civil or military).
• A desire to widen and deepen your knowledge of electromagnetic phenomena affecting aerospace products, such as EMC, HIRF, EMP, Hazards to Ordnance, Fuel, Personnel, PED Tolerance and Lightning Indirect Effects.
• A desire to support helicopter development at varying levels, combining detailed design with whole-platform level considerations.
• A responsible attitude to product safety and tenacious approach to accuracy.
• Ability to communicate equally across multi-functional teams, and with colleagues at all levels
• Ability to create and edit documentation, e.g. Test Schedules/ Test Reports, Analysis Reports, etc.

Advantageous in this role are:

• Awareness of aerospace guidance material e.g. ED-81/AC20-136, ED-107/AC20-158, ED-130
• Familiarity with qualification standards, e.g. DO-160, DEF STAN 59-411, MIL STD 461
• Appreciation of typical electromagnetic environment threats in the aerospace sector e.g. EMC, HIRF, EMP, Hazards to Ordnance, Fuel, Personnel, PED Tolerance and Lightning Indirect Effects.
• Appreciation of the Systems Engineering lifecycle

Also desirable would be:

• Experience in Physics/ Electronics/ Telecommunications
• Awareness and interest in Applied Electromagnetics
• Interest in Electromagnetic Simulation within the aerospace sector.
