We are looking for Software Engineers at Leonardo in Edinburgh.
Leonardo is a global leader in defence electronics and delivers systems for situational awareness, electronic warfare and surveillance across land, sea and air. The Radar and Advanced Targeting line of business, based in Edinburgh, is uniquely positioned as one of the world’s top manufacturers of radars, lasers and infra-red countermeasure systems.
Our Captor M radar remains the primary front line defence aircraft for the UK, Germany, Italy and Spain. We need to deliver new features and enhancements to continue to keep our operators safe. Are you the person who can strengthen our software development team?
As a Software Engineer on our Typhoon Captor M programme, you will work closely with the customer to understand the operational requirements. You will implement new features and also gather data, investigate and fix problems, and deploy updates.

What you will do
As a Software Engineer on our Captor-M programme, you will:
- Develop software solutions for all stages of the software lifecycle, from concept to delivery.
- Work directly with the customer, to understand their operational requirements.
- Investigate and resolve real integration problems on a highly complex system.
- Create high quality and robust code for a flying platform.
- Deliver software and supporting technical documents.
- Communicate technical solutions to internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate across multiple disciplines to achieve the team’s goals.
- Share best practice across the software engineering community.
- Bring your own unique expertise, and mentor, coach and teach others to improve our capability.
- Be supported to develop your skills, reach your goals, and become better every day.
What we are looking for
We are looking for people who have experience and knowledge in the following areas:
- Full software development lifecycle.
- Configuration management tools.
- Customer engagement and managing customer expectations.
- Collaborating within a multi-disciplined team.
- Aptitude for problem solving.
Not essential, but will make you stand out from the crowd:
- Developing software in Ada.
- Experience in Aerospace, Defence or any other regulated sector such as medical or automotive.
- Software development in a real time embedded environment.
- Refactoring software implementation for large legacy systems.
- Understanding of C.
- Knowledge sharing techniques
