Full Time / 37 hours / Fixed Term for 2 years
Are you an enthusiastic character who has a keen interest in financial processes and systems?
We’re currently recruiting for a Financial System Technician Apprentice to provide technical support and advice to users of the Council’s finance system on behalf of the Finance Systems Team.
The Finance Systems team are an integral part of the organisation and help to ensure the finance system is maintained correctly and to the required standards. This enables the Council to have the assurance that public funds are recorded correctly and allows for sound financial decision making.
To some organisations a Finance Systems Technicians may be seen as a niche role that focuses solely on the outputs from an accounting package. At Leicester City Council, however, we think we offer a compelling role that can enable the right candidate to get to the heart of our organisation, make a real difference to our services, and take their career forward.
We also think ‘systems’ means more than just the accounting package. You’ll lead the relationship between Finance and ICT, and work closely with other colleagues on the Council’s banking, income and payments systems.
With this breadth of involvement, you’ll also be able to influence the way that both you and the role develop over time. There is a lot to do, but yours will be an influential role, which will give you the chance to develop your skills further.
We are seeking the successful post holder to work a 37-hour week. Working hours are typically daytime, Monday to Friday. With flexi time as an added bonus. Within this post we offer a hybrid system of working from home and City Hall.
What you’ll be doing:
As Finance Systems Technician you’ll be involved in finance systems upgrades, maintenance and development. Day to day you’ll support various users of the Councils finance systems, working particularly closely with the Council’s Accountancy & Exchequer Teams. This will include ensuring key processes are completed.
You’ll also undertake project work and as you progress will act as the lead where appropriate. This includes identifying potential system and process solutions to achieve revised business requirements or efficiencies.
This role will maintain best practice in financial standards and discipline and development of collaborative working relationships with staff and managers is maintained.
What you’ll need:
The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in financial processes and systems, with an enthusiasm to learn and develop their knowledge. As this is an entry level role, experience of working in a financial environment is not essential however, a qualification in Level 2 Maths and English (equivalent to GCSE graded A*-C or 9-5), as part of 5 GCSEs (graded A*-C or 9-5) or equivalent is required.
In addition, you’ll hold the ability to organise your own work and work under pressure as this is an important part of the job role. You’ll be a great team player who can work as part of a successful team. You’ll have experience, whether it be within a work or education setting of, solving problems, and thinking creatively to do so.
This job is subject to qualification checks.
What we can offer you
As well as the satisfaction of helping to improve thousands of lives across Leicester, you can look forward to a work environment that encourages a healthy work/life balance. You’ll enjoy generous annual leave, membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and the option of flexible working. We’ll also give you the chance to develop your skills and expertise with a variety of training and development opportunities. In addition, you can choose from a number of flexible benefits, including childcare vouchers, discounts on city buses and trains and help with relocation to Leicester, where appropriate. For an illustrative value of your benefits package, take a look at out benefits calculator.
