Legrand has an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Technician to join the Data, Power & Control Division in Independence, OH .

The Engineering Technician plays a critical role in driving our success. As a transceiver and switch subject matter expert, your strong knowledge of optical networking equipment, optical networks, and network equipment interoperability will provide guidance to customers and our sales and marketing teams.

The successful candidate will assist with our switch compatibility and transceiver coding support programs. This candidate will partner with Engineering, Product, Sales, and Operations teams to ensure successful deployment, and interoperability of transceiver and other emerging components as required.

The Engineering Technician will thoroughly know the transceiver and switch operations transceiver product roadmap. The Engineering Technician will have a strong switch and transceiver operations background.

Main Responsibilities :

The main responsibilities of this role are to proactively participate in test lab operations including, but not limited to :

• Communicates technical material to the non-technical team members simply and clearly
• May assists with configuring and deploying transceiver, passive optical devices, network switches, NIDS, etc. in the customer’s network
• Knowledge of EEPROM and compatibility of transceivers in various NEM switches
• Manages the daily activities of network systems, testing diagnostics, ensuring network systems are operational, and s system faults
• Responsible for installation, administration, and testing of network switches and testing system software, cabling, and other related network components in accordance with standards in the Approved Networks lab facilities
• Provides guidance to Customer Network Technicians during test and turn-up and emergency failures
• Diagnoses and troubleshoots errors in switch software and EEPROMs, isolates, and resolves routine to highly complex issues
• Assists with surveys for customer network capabilities and makes recommendations for the components, equipment, and operating systems
• Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently
• Maintains records of work completed and in progress; and updates network documentation to record installations, upgrades, configurations, etc.
• Occasional travel to work sites in the performance of duties ( 10%)
• Support, track, and record complex compatibility and interoperability of transceiver and network switch configurations via hands-on or remote access to equipment.

Includes both initial evaluation and ongoing support

• Lab leadership – supporting the QC team with challenging configurations and testing
• On-site support with customers in the customer’s switches, router, and transport system test labs. Requires thorough knowledge of switch OS, transceiver EEPROM configuration, and switch interoperability tests
• Maintaining records of testing and compatibility in various systems
• Support the Sales team as needed with customer meetings on post-sales matters
• General technical phone support as needed

Qualifications

Education :

• ASEE or equivalent experience
• CCNA or CONA desired or equivalent computer networking experience

Experience :

• Optical networking and transceiver experience
• Demonstrated computer operations skills
• 3 – 5 years in the Telco, CATV, or related networking industries
• Working knowledge of EEPROM programming preferred

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities :

• Knowledge and experience with POs, Sales Order, Invoice, Products, RMA (a plus)
• Efficient and Positive Work Ethic (Sense of Urgency).
• Excellent communication skills (Written and Spoken)
• Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook (Fluent in Office Suite)
• High-level customer service focus and professionalism
• Self-motivated, with the ability to problem solve and multi-task effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced environment while prioritizing daily workloads

Physical Requirements :

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds, as needed
• Travel may be required on occasion
