POSITION TITLE: Dean of Academics

DEPARTMENT: Academics

REPORTS TO: President

WORK HOURS: M-F, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

STATUS: Exempt

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Valid MN Driver’s License, current insurance or be insurable.

SUMMARY:

The Dean of Academics provides leadership and direction for all academic programs, transfer and general education curricula, services, and staff, as well as articulation agreements and assessment of student learning outcomes. Under the general direction of President, the Dean of Academics provides leadership and direction for transfer, basic skills, curricula, distance education, articulation, and faculty development. The Dean of Academics directs and evaluates faculty relative to areas of assignment.

ACCOUNTABILITY:

The Dean of Academics reports directly to the President. In cooperation with department chairs, the Dean of Academics is responsible for the successful operation of the instructional programs and services to which assigned.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Assists with transfer and general education curricula in regards to programs development, review and evaluation.
• Directs faculty in assessment and academic planning; in collaboration with the DAIR Office, directs and conducts research regarding student success and transfers.
• Assists faculty in the acquisition, development, and utilization of instructional resources.
• Oversees distance education and provides direction and training for LLTC’s distance education instructors.
• Assists Human Resource Director with preparing faculty and Adjuncts contracts.
• Evaluates performance, and provides leadership to assigned academic and classified employees.
• Service as P.I. (Principle Investigator/Project Director) Title III F Grant award. This includes submitting an annual performance report and managing the budget for the grant.
• In conjunction with the Dean of Student Services and Registrar, assists with revision and production of the College catalog.
• Constructs course schedules in collaboration with Department Heads.
• Facilitates articulation agreements with other institutions of higher learning.
• Assists in maintaining accreditation status and self-study requirements.
• Resolves or assists in the resolution of problems and/or complaints and initiates corrective action as appropriate.
• Serves on various college committees and participates in professional organizations as appropriate to assignment.
• Provide leadership and support in building collaborative partnerships with tribal government entities and community efforts as requested.
• Maintain and provide effective leadership and communication with faculty, staff, students. And other stakeholders, serve as advocate for faculty, staff, and students.
• Collaborate and help foster relationships between faculty and the student services team to strengthen student recruitment, advising, and retention activities.

EDUCATION:

PhD in related field and 2-3 years’ experience in higher education preferred. A Master’s degree from an accredited college or university and approximately three years of increasingly responsible experience in higher education required.

• Understanding knowledge of and commitment to the mission, vision and goals of LLTC.
• Knowledge of Anishinaabe culture and demonstrated ability to work with Native communities.
• Successful college teaching experience.
• Familiarity with matriculation policy and requirements.
• Demonstrated commitment to serving students from diverse backgrounds, interests, goals, and abilities.
• Demonstrated competence in program planning and evaluation.
• Demonstrated competence in development and evaluation of academic programs.
• Demonstrated effectiveness in leading and motivation faculty and staff in a collegial and shared governance environment.

• Knowledge of technology used in educational programs and services.
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
• Ability to work effectively with groups of diverse ages and educational backgrounds.
• Ability to effectively promote instructional innovation.

• Ability to effectively train and evaluate faculty and staff; has the ability to work cooperatively with others.
• Ability to work effectively as a team member of LLTC.
• Ability to provide outstanding quality customer service and support to the LLTC and all stakeholders.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to lift 30 pounds or more and use proper body mechanics

Be able to sit or stand for long periods of time

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $62,000.00 – $65,000.00 per year
