About us

The client works a four-day week. They are a small nonprofit training provider with a highly innovative peer-led training model and a focus on software developer apprenticeships. Every term they take on 12 new learners. By the end of this year, they expect to have around 40 apprentices and a staff team of seven.

About you

You like taking responsibility and can work with a high degree of autonomy. You expect to be accountable to your peers for your work and you expect the same from them.
You have experience of community engagement. You are excited to be part of a small team with a radical approach to learning in general and apprenticeships in particular.

About the role

This is a four-day a week role. However, because this is a new role in the organisation, we may consider applicants wishing to work a three-day week.
You will be responsible for ensuring that we have a committed and diverse applicant pool and that we have an active and engaged alumni community.

Summary information

Salary: £36-42,000, depending on experience
Hours: 30 hours (4 days)
Holiday: 24 days + bank holidays
Contract: 12 months, initially
Location: Finsbury Park (minimum of 2 days per week on-site)

Roles and responsibilities

• Ensure that we have a committed and diverse applicant pool from which we can select a minimum of 12 new learners;
• Ensure that we have an active and engaged alumni community;
• Organise meetups and coding clubs at our campus and in our local community;
• Recruit and schedule volunteer mentors and speakers for our apprenticeship programme;
• Organise alumni events;
• Liaise with Islington Council, Space4 and other community partners;
• Liaise with applicants to our Tech for better programme;
• Manage our social media presence;
• Solicit feedback from applicants and alumni and other community stakeholders to understand how we can better meet their needs;
• Attend and actively participate in our fortnightly review and planning sessions and other team meetings;
• Identify areas where you need support and bring them to the attention of the rest of the team, as and when needed;
• Be largely present during term times.

Very desirable

• Experience of community building;

• Experience of mentoring or coaching;

• Experience of managing social media;

• Ability to communicate verbally and in writing and to maintain high quality documentation;

• A high degree of familiarity with computer-based record keeping and communication;

• Ability to give constructive feedback to others;

• Ability and willingness to work in a small team with a relatively flat management structure and a high level of delegated responsibility and accountability;

• Ability and willingness to work with a high degree of autonomy and to manage your own workload effectively;

• Ability and willingness to engage with a wide variety of stakeholders in order to better understand and meet their needs;

• Willingness to commit to a culture of continuous learning.

Desirable

• Experience of the digital sector;

• Relevant vocational qualifications.

There is also the requirement to pass an Enhanced DBS check.
