Job Title: Packaging/Automation Engineer

Job Summary:

The Packaging Automation Engineer will provide technical support to Packaging and Manufacturing Operations including specification, evaluation, and installation of new pharmaceutical packaging equipment; assure compliance of equipment operation and function with cGMP standards; troubleshoot and optimize installed equipment; provide technical support for equipment automation components including recipe development and programming support; integrate packaging line serialization functions with Logistics and IT Systems, provide support for site serialization; identify and implement corrective actions and process improvement.

Responsibilities:

• Assure proper setup and operation of new, modified and/or repaired equipment within packaging and Operations.
• Manage specification and design activities for new equipment and packaging line configuration.
• Provide support for equipment troubleshooting and repair of packaging, process and serialization equipment.
• Support manufacturing & packaging systems with user access control, maintain system backups and version control.
• Monitor packaging processes and equipment and identify areas for improvement.
• Assist with equipment testing, qualification and standard operating procedure development/review.
• Assist with User Requirements (URS)
• Assist in training of Packaging Operations and Maintenance staff.
• Assist with selection and design of packaging components and configurations.
• Support creation of System Design (SDS) and Functional Design (FDS) documentation.
• Experience with PLC- and HMI-based systems and programs.
• SME for packaging serialization systems; support implementation and ongoing functionality of serialization equipment and data communication.
• SME for equipment automation and control systems.

Experience:

5-years experience in Engineering or Technical Services within an Industrial Packaging Organization. Pharmaceutical Industry experience preferred.

Specific Skills:

• Understanding of the activities required for successful equipment startup and qualification.
• Experience with packaging serialization requirements and communication protocols.
• Experience with HMI-based control systems, user access, and familiarity with Windows-based OS.
• Working knowledge of servo-motor operational principles.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and schematics
• Ability to handle multiple projects and assignments with varying priorities in a manner that meets the Company’s goals
• Ability to effectively communicate with vendors, suppliers, and manufacturing
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Leadership and interpersonal skills; ability to manage cross-functional teams
• Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills

Physical Requirements:

• Frequently required to climb, balance, stoop, and kneel
• Must be able to operate objects, tools or controls and reach with arms and hands
• Must wear safety equipment when required
