The Role

Academic Strategy

• Set the academic standards and lead on the planning of the curriculum and implementation of strategic academic delivery;
• Lead the Teaching and Learning strategy in the school, developing and supporting all teaching staff;
• Working with the Senior Deputy Head on teaching staff appraisals and continual professional development;
• Ensure that the academic standards and outcomes are suitably determined for a mixed ability cohort;
• Ensure that all SEND needs are met in terms of access arrangements and day to day life in the classroom;
• Liaise with staff to ensure that the enrichments programme has a meaningful academic element;
• Drive the Digital innovation and implementation in the school, working with the Digitial team to ensure that technology supports the high-quality learning environment. Take the lead on training teaching staff so technology is used to its best;
• Lead academic outreach beyond the school;
• Lead a programme of stretch and challenge for the academic scholars.

Leadership and Management

• Member of the Senior School Senior Management Team and wider whole school leadership team;
• Line manage the Assistant Head, Director of Studies;
• Support and develop the academic leaders in the school;
• Conduct training and induction for new Heads of Department;
• Play a key role in the recruitment of new teaching staff;
• Hold and chair regular Heads of Department meetings;
• Subject line management of some departments, likely to be English, Maths, Science, MFL, EAL, Learning Support, the Library;
• Line manage the Exams team to ensure a smooth internal and external process;
• Prepare an annual academic report for the governors;
• Work with the Senior Deputy Head to oversee and lead the ECT and PGCE process.

Operations

• Liaising with the Prep School to ensure congruence and academic transition;
• Work with the Senior Deputy Head on the preparation of the school for inspections;
• Work with the Admissions team to ensure a rigorous academic scholarship process.
