Transport Education and Campaigns Officer
PO1: Starting salary £35,067 per annum
Full-time, Permanent
Lambeth is a dynamic and exciting borough that stretches from the banks of the Thames opposite the Houses of Parliament to Streatham and West Norwood in the south, via the South Bank, Clapham, Brockwell Park, iconic Brixton and the UK’s busiest station at Waterloo. With over 320,000 residents, bustling markets, iconic venues and public events across our town centres, the borough is home to diverse, strong and engaged communities.
Lambeth Council is a progressive borough when it comes to Active Travel, but there is a lot more work to be done. We are looking for a passionate and articulate person to assist with the successful running of the Active Travel programme. This will involve the organisation of campaigns and events, the management of projects, data analysis, stakeholder engagement, as well as production of campaign and publicity materials. The person appointed will be highly organised, able to work flexibly, customer focused and be adept at meeting demanding deadlines in pressurised circumstances, possess excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) and excellent IT skills. The nature of the duties means that there is an expectation to work occasional early mornings, evenings and weekends.
The postholder will work closely with the Active Travel Manager and take an active role in devising and delivering the wider transport education, training and publicity programme. The main projects will include helping to deliver the School Streets programme, working with local schools on their STARS accreditation, walking projects, bus days and other projects to promote walking and cycling.
Based in the Active Travel team, the postholder will also support the council in achieving its environmental and air quality objectives. The successful candidate will have a good and wide knowledge of active travel initiatives, transport policies and have a keen interest in active travel.
Funded by the Local Implementation Plan budget from Transport for London and internally, projects are created to reach targets set by the Mayor’s Vision Zero strategy, Lambeth Transport and Environment strategies and policies to make Lambeth a safer place to live, work, study and travel.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic and experienced individual to join our lively, passionate, and welcoming team.
