Purpose
Act as owner and subject matter expert ensuring operational excellence within HR Compliance and Safety. Develops and manages relevant programs/policies/procedures to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations. This individual also leads efforts to improve safety performance and training, while working to reduce/eliminate worker injuries and associated costs.

Responsibilities
Safety
  • Partner with Plant Supervisors to investigate accidents and prepare reports as needed.
  • Manage Safety Program, including safety training and employee information, Worker Compensation program and OSHA Compliance and reporting for all locations (MN & WI)
  • Electronically maintains Safety Data Sheets to ensure compliance with OSHA.
  • Assist with the management and maintenance of the company’s overall safety culture by driving action, engagement, and accountability through educating and engaging leaders to drive the safety culture and expectations within their workgroups.
  • Review and track investigations of injuries, illnesses, environmental releases, non-injury accidents and near-misses to ensure that they are effective, and that they identify and resolve root causes.
  • Facilitate injured employees’ return to work from a modified duty capacity with progression to full duty.
  • Assist with auditing and evaluations of workplace environments, equipment, and operations to ensure compliance with safety best practices and government regulations.

Human Resources
  • Auditing and monitoring the processes related to recruitment, time and attendance, disability accommodations, leaves of absence, privacy records management and other related areas.
  • Proactive approach to stay up to date with employment, federal and state laws (MN & WI).
  • Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations, including ADA, ADEA, FMLA, HIPPA, OSHA, ERISA, FMCSA and ISO.
  • Act as management representative for Unemployment and EEO related situations.
  • Interpret and explain HR policies, procedures, laws, standards and regulations to employees and managers.
  • Ability to extract data from the HRIS and analyze data to resolve issues or bring up areas of concern as needed.
  • Conduct and/or assist with investigations regarding employee relation matters, safety and performance issues, harassment and other behavior that may violate company policy.
  • Assist to maintain personnel files in compliance with applicable legal requirements.
  • Assist in tracking sick leave, and other leaves in compliance with company policy.
  • Assisting in the review and issuing of annual W-2, 1095, EEO reporting and wage statements to employees.
  • Execute annual compliance reporting including ACA reporting.

Qualifications
  • Four-year liberal arts or business degree or equivalent experience is preferred.
  • 2+ years of recent experience, safety, quality improvement, workers’ compensation claims management or industry-related experience preferred
  • PHR, SHRM-SCP certification preferred.
  • Knowledge of principles and HR compliance of Human Resources administration and laws.
  • Must be able to work independently with multiple priorities to successfully complete assigned projects and responsibilities.

  • Ability to interact with staff at all levels of the organization in a professional, courteous, and tactful manner.

  • Experience with OSHA programs including hazardous materials, personnel protective equipment, fall protection, machine guarding, electrical safety, fire protection, hearing conservation program, respiratory protection program, and toxic and hazardous substances.
  • Working knowledge of ERP, ADP, Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task, meet deadlines, and easily adapt to change.
  • Ability to effectively manage sensitive and confidential information in a professional manner.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently with strong organizational, time management and communication skills.
  • Ability to support multiple shifts as needed. Ability to develop and maintain strong and effective working relationships and partnerships.
