Overview:
The primary objective of the Quality CP is to provide technical support to support the growth, development and movement of Exshaw product into the expanding WCAN market. A large focus is on how to improve the sustainability of our final product and reduce clinker factor. To support this, the Quality CP is responsible for implementing quality improvement projects, conducting quality trials, providing recommendations and implementing approved recommendations.

Work with the highest standards of plant and personal Safety, Environment and Quality.
Support the mandates and objectives of other departments to ensure the overall profitability and success of Exshaw and Western Canada Cement Business Unit.
Participate in environmental and health and safety improvement projects.
Ensure safe work rules and precautions are understood and implemented and followed by all Quality Department and plant employees.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
Assist and provide support with raw mix optimization and introduction of alternate raw materials. Specification, quality assurance and control plan, and optimization and tracking of benefits (environmental and cost).
Organize, perform and evaluate optimization trials of cement production in relation to improving productivity, specific energy consumption, clinker factor utilization to help achieve our sustainability and cost objectives while maintaining key performance criteria required for our customers.
Improve the efficiency, consistency and productivity of the cement manufacturing process by conducting daily analysis of plant lab results. Works within the Quality department and with the Process and Operations teams to prioritize and implement actions.
Conduct quality studies and audits to maintain performance and identify potential areas of improvement.
Works within the Continuous Improvement Teams resolving mid and long term deficiencies, while providing technical evidence to support improvement initiatives. Defines quality parameters for modified equipment/installations under supervision of the Quality Coordinator.
Lead and develop quality improvement proposals. Develop scope and business cases when needed.
Establish, improve, and maintain standard quality procedures
Identify environmental constraints and impact on operating permits associated with the introduction of new alternative raw materials, new alternative fuels or other process additives to the process.
Supervise and train Quality Assurance Operators and Quality Control Operators when required.
Set up new laboratory equipment, ensure maintenance and calibration of existing. Troubleshoot equipment when required.
Responsible for the development of projects to further improve product quality and laboratory efficiency.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry is required. Other may be considered.
Solid understanding of statistical analysis, chemistry, physics, and mathematics.
Experience with laboratory equipment, sampling, and testing methods.
Proven ability and analytical approach to problem solving; particularly those of a technical nature.
Experience and Skill Set:
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
Strong leadership skills. Ability to work with cross-functional teams and influence decisions.
Ability to apply basic engineering principles of thermodynamics, heat transfer, mass flow, and mechanical engineering.
Willingness to learn the function of complex mechanical, electrical/instrumentation and automation technology and equipment.
Achievement oriented, strong work ethic, self-starter, detail orientated.
Good written and oral communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills.
Pre-employment medical including drug & alcohol testing, background checks and employment references may be required.
