Asilo:

The Asilo is the first multi-lingual, fully-immersive educational environment in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in which children between the ages of 1 and 5 learn, grow, and play in a safe, secure, and new facility licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services. Duties:

As a Teacher’s Assistant, you will be responsible for the following:

• Assisting teachers in the development and the implementation of developmentally appropriate activities to promote children’s proficiencies in various languages and other all subject matter areas (math, reading, etc .), cognition, social-emotional well-being, and physical health. This should be done with consideration of our goals, educational philosophy, and general curriculum plans
• Supervising students and ensuring that they are in a safe, sanitary, and healthy environment. This includes maintaining a clean and orderly environment for the children; ensuring children attend to personal hygiene/hand washing; teaching children about health and nutrition; and reporting accidents, injuries, and illnesses to parents and supervisors
• Ensuring the maintenance and necessary housekeeping of the classrooms, common areas, and playgrounds
• Maintaining an attractive, well-kept classroom that encourages children to create, to explore, and to learn
• Working with other teaching staff to provide a nurturing, stimulating, non-punitive, and culturally sensitive environment that encourages language, self-expression, exploration, creativity, imaginative play, thinking skills, and the development of positive relationships.
• Collaborating with other staff by exhibiting and promoting workplace values, showing flexibility, and being a team player
• Helping to check in and to check out students; serving meals and snacks, and aiding children with their personal needs
• Ensuring that parents and guardians are greeted warmly and receive adequate information about their child’s experience at the center through daily contact, scheduled conferences, and written documentation as required
• Performing any other tasks that the director or the teachers may assign
• Adhering to requirements for funding, licensing, and accreditation agencies

Qualifications:

To be eligible for this position, all candidates must possess the following:

• Authorization to work in the United States of America
• Criminal background clearances
• CPR and first aid certifications
• Mandatory reporting training
• Ability to pass a physical and TB test
• A warm and supportive disposition towards children
• A positive and optimistic attitude
• A willingness to accept supervision and to continue professional development in the field
• An ability to communicate verbally and in writing with children, parents, and other staff members and to document children’s growth and learning
• A desire to work in a socially and culturally diverse environment with the ability to handle situations with professionalism, tact, and diplomacy
• Proficiency in computers and standard software; e_ . g_ ., Word, Outlook, etc.

Preferred Qualifications:

Candidates with the following will be preferred:

• Fluency in Italian or Spanish or French
• An associate’s degree in child development, child education, or a related field
• 2 years of experience with preschool children or an equivalent combination of education and experience
