This positionis based at the Kohler facility in Huntsville, Alabama. This manufacturing facility produces SterlingVikrell and Kohler Choreograph Bathing & Showering products.

As a Kohler Co. Manager of Automation &Controls Engineering, you will take ownership of managing the automation andcontrols engineering team to ensure strategic goals of the team supportcontinued improvement in performance of plant operations.

As the Automation & Controls Manager, youwill continuously drive to keep the manufacturing facility as current and efficientas possible, especially regarding automation, electrical, and controls systemsand software.

This team will need toconsistently develop and apply advanced theories, methods, and researchtechniques in the investigation and solution of complex and advanced technicalproblems with new technologies.

Your ManagementResponsibilities :

• Collaborate with the Assoc. Dir – Engineering, Vikrell to develop strategic goals for the Automation and Controls Engineering team that supports the overall strategic direction of the facility.
• Manage the automation and controls engineers and their short and long-term projects to meet the team’s and plant’s strategic goals
• Ensure that Automation and Controls engineering resources are in place and provide support for the strategic and tactical projects at the facility.
• This Manager and assigned direct s will have the below responsibilities

Electrical / Controls :

• Provide technical support, as required, to ensure plant electrical and controls equipment are operating, optimized, and meet all applicable safety standards, including troubleshooting of down equipment as required.
• Maintain knowledge and understanding of equipment electrical controls and upgrade as needed.
• Manage the automation, controls, and electrical portion of installation, commissioning, and validation of new capital equipment or equipment modifications needed at the Huntsville facility.
• Implement error proofing solutions that are integrated into the production line or manufacturing process control and / or electrical systems, such as the integration of cameras, laser sensors, in-process / post process gage systems, data collection, etc.
• Research and evaluate new and existing processes, operations, and support systems for adaptation and / or improvements needed to manufacture Kohler and Sterling products to meet objectives and improve the customer experience.
• Maintain proficiency in mechanical / electrical design, as needed, to evaluate and manage improvement projects.
• Conduct feasibility studies to assure that implementation of recommended improvements would meet objectives with respect to safety, quality, market demands, competitive costs, and general financial criteria
• Work with maintenance team to maintain and update spare parts strategy, recommended preventative maintenance and frequency, etc.

AUTOMATION :

• Lead the implementation of new advanced manufacturing processes including the evaluation and implementation of automated / semi-automated manufacturing technologies applicable to the development / manufacturing Kohler products
• Develop and improve manufacturing automation processes in support of new and existing products and ensuring timely delivery of highest quality product and safety of employees
• Provide technical support and project leadership to the manufacturing department as required to ensure plant automation equipment is operating and optimized as well as meets all applicable safety standards
• Manage automation equipment installation and upgrades as needed; create and implement plans to mitigate downtime and performance issues
• Oversee the justification, planning, and execution of individual capital projects to scheduled timelines and within approved budget
• Perform time studies of manufacturing processes to be included in the determination of validating manufacturing labor standards
• Provide digital / CAD support for layouts and work center designs
• Lead continuous improvement and innovation projects using Lean Manufacturing techniques
• Identify manufacturing variability issues pertaining to automation and work with Engineering, Production and Maintenance teams as needed to reduce or eliminate variation in these manufacturing processes
• Work with maintenance team to establish spare parts strategy, recommended preventative maintenance and frequency, etc. for automation equipment
• Troubleshoot down equipment as required

Skills / Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline from an ABET accredited engineering or engineering technology program
• 10+ years of relevant controls and automation experience including developing complete controls solutions from concept to deployment
• Must have a passion for leading an engineering team in a fast-paced 24 / 7 manufacturing environment and driving continuous improvement to automation and controls processes and equipment.
• Ability to motivate, energize, and develop team members
• Good communication and organizational skills
• AutoCAD proficiency in electrical schematic design
• Knowledge of Safety standards and Electrical Standards.
• Experience troubleshooting automation equipment and programming logic
• The ability to travel, on occasion, as needed for business purposes

The salary range for this position is $119,450 – $152,650. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s experience, their education, and the work location.
