Staff Accountant
JOB SUMMARY
The Accountant has responsibilities associated with the preparation of financial data for the companies. The Accountant participates in a variety of tasks associated with the day-to-day operations of the accounting function; monthly, quarterly and annual financial closing process; and, preparation of the monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements.
Education: A Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or closely-related field required. 2-5 years of experience.
We are looking for someone with a base accounting knowledge to do monthly journal entries, account reconciliations, variance analysis, respond to audit requests, and some internal/external financial reporting.
The main tool used that we need the candidate experience in is EXCEL. The other software used – Powerplan (our accounting system), Planning Analytics (an EXCEL add-in), and our account reconciliation/variance analysis system can be learned on the job.
We also will provide training on utility accounting and regulations. I do not expect them to be familiar with these. If someone has experience working at a utility, that would be a bonus but certainly not required.
We are looking for someone professional, reliable, with attention to detail, and someone who can pay attention during training, take notes, and work independently (of course with support of team for questions). We need the person to have a sense of urgency and manage priorities to meet deadlines during the close as many tasks are interdependent.
