School Director Job Description

The School Director provides leadership at KLA Schools and is responsible for the wellbeing and normal function of the school. The School Director recommends policies, priorities, projects, and programs and develops and administers the school program outlined in the Parent and Employee Handbooks. The School Director recruits, hires, and assists people in working to their capability, provides referral services to parents, and supervises the day-to- day implementation of the programs.

During the introductory period, the General Manager of KLA Schools explains to the School Director the job responsibilities and the performance standards expected. From time to time, the School Director may be asked to work on special projects or to assist with other work necessary or important to the operation of KLA Schools. His or her cooperation and assistance in performing such additional work is expected and appreciated.
Key Responsibilities of the School Director General Administration

• Conducts tours for prospective families
• Recruits and places children, sets starting dates, and maintains maximum enrollment
• Informs parents of KLA Schools policies
• Confers with parents who express complaints or concerns verbally or in writing
• Meets with parents whose children experience difficulty or are targeted for intervention, whether medical, educational, or psychological
• Monitors communication between teachers and parents
• Conducts weekly Professional Development meetings for head teachers according to the assigned schedule
• Coordinates and conducts meetings for teacher assistants and other staff as needed
• Maintains good communication lines with other preschools in the community
• Plans school-wide events, agendas, and pedagogical calendars
• Maintains license for school and handles licensing visits; attends state licensing meetings and state funded trainings, if applicable
• Shapes the programs, leads, coordinates, makes decisions, and develops and maintains a quality center
• Maintains communication with parents
• Maintains communication with teachers and personnel
• Organizes yearbook

Financial Administration

• Maintains overall fiscal control of the school budgets in coordination with school owners
• Reviews and approves payroll reports before being submitted to owner for processing.
• Reviews and updates staff’s compensation and benefits
• Maintains control of personnel costs
• Orders or approves material and supplies

Personnel Administration and Supervision

• Oversees an effective and efficient administrative structure
• Ensures the development of a staffing plan that clearly delineates and defines position functions
• Ensures the preparation of written policies and practices and adherence to them
• Recruits, hires, and interviews staff
• Provides orientation for new staff, which includes the review of job descriptions, staff rules, and personnel policies of the school
• Presents and reviews the Employee Handbook and personnel policies
• Coordinates staff scheduling, regarding hours, substitutes, and requests for personal days
• Provides in-service training and workshops as needed for staff development
• Assists teachers with formal parent-teacher conferences
• Acts as a resource person for head teachers
• Evaluates staff member performance and meets biannually with staff members individually to discuss evaluations
• Arranges conferences with individual staff members who are having difficulties related to their jobs
• Mediates problems among colleagues
• Observes, evaluates, and supervises the programs on an ongoing basis in all classrooms
• Observes classrooms throughout the school year (Classroom visits are scheduled and conducted regularly and as needed.)

Public Relations

• Develops an atmosphere of support for the school within the community
• Acts as liaison with community preschools, organizations, and ethnic groups
• Assists colleges and universities in teacher training and internship programs
• Acts as a resource person for other city, state, and federal programs
• Makes speeches, prepares news releases, writes articles, and develops brochures
• Oversees social media accounts and maintains social media presence

Reporting Relationship

• Reports directly to the owner of KLA Schools of Hillsboro

Educational Requirements

• One of the following educational levels obtained:
• A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college, university, or higher program in child development or early childhood education with emphasis on preschool through eight years old
• A bachelor’s degree in elementary education from an accredited college, university, or higher program, including at least these requirements:

Three semester hours in child growth and development or child psychology Three semester hours in methods and techniques of teaching the preschool- age child

Six semester hours in nutrition and administration of a child-care center

• A two-year college degree from an accredited college or university in child development or early childhood education and these requirements:

Twelve semester hours in child growth and development and preschool education (At least one course must be completed in child psychology or child

growth and development and one course in methods and techniques in teaching the preschool child. A maximum of three semester hours in a supervised student participation course will be counted toward the twelve- semester hour requirement.)

Three semester hours in psychology Three semester hours in sociology

Six semester hours in nutrition and administration of a child-care center Knowledge and experience in the fields of management and finance Experience as a preschool teacher

Health Requirements

• Ability to frequently lift, move, or hold children up to 40 pounds
• Ability to occasionally lift, move, or hold weight up to 40 pounds
• Ability to supervise and interact with children outdoors for extended periods in varied weather conditions
• Full range of motion to lift, reach, squat, climb, sit, and otherwise fully participate in activities
• Immediate and appropriate responsiveness to multiple or unexpected situations or emergencies
• Mental and physical alertness and an appropriate level of energy to perform essential job requirements (If upon examination or as a result of tests, the individual shows indication of a physical, emotional, or mental condition, which could be hazardous to a child, staff, or self and which would prevent satisfactory performance of duties, the individual shall not be assigned or returned to a position until the condition clears to the satisfaction of the examining physician.)

For all job descriptions, the employee is responsible for meeting annual state and KLA requirements. Not doing so constitutes a violation to the terms of employment. If the employee is not in compliance, he or she will have three months to correct this violation to avoid suspension without pay. If suspended, the employee will be reinstated only after completing the necessary requirements.

Pay: $72,000.00 – $85,000.00 per year
