This post is designed to provide a wide range of educational experience for SpRs/StRs who wish to make a commitment to education as part of their career. This is a twelve month ‘out of programme (OOPE) post aimed at those who wish to build on their personal teaching experience to develop expertise in educational theory and practice, and undertake supervised educational research.
Although an enthusiasm for teaching is a prerequisite, no assumptions will be made about formal knowledge of educational theory or practice. Hands-on teaching will be central to the post, as will a critical engagement with educational issues around providing postgraduate training in a changing context, both nationally and locally.
This post is ideally designed for ST2 – 7 level trainees to:
Provide an opportunity to undertake research in Medical Education
Clinical responsibilities will be dependant on the post holder’s clinical experience and will be tailored to that individual.
Learning outcomes for this post include
When working within the centre the post holder will be expected to contribute to the running of the centre on a day-to-day level working closely with the established PGMDE team. They will be expected to develop the capability to work without supervision in simulation but will be fully supported as they develop this skill. They will be expected to develop an understanding of all modes of simulation including human factors.

The job will allow the successful post holder to undertake focused training in simulation and Medical Education. In discussion with the DME the post holder will ensure they maintain their clinical expertise. This clinical commitment will ensure that the post holder maintains their clinical involvement throughout the year.
This clinical component may include out of hours work, depending on the appointee’s clinical speciality and experience.
The post holder will have an opportunity to undertake relevant educational
programmes, time for such development will be agreed with the Director of Medical Education. The post holder will also have an opportunity to undertake a Leadership Development Programme for Speciality Lead Registrars at KCH.
As part of your CPD the Trust will contribute financial support toward an educational qualification for completion of appropriate programmes, for example, the KCL Masters in Clinical Pedagogy/PG Certificate.
