For over 160 years we’ve been supporting children and young people (aged 5 – 26), many of whom have experienced significant trauma or adversity. Through our integrated services and dedicated support, providing a safe and stable environment, Kibble helps children and young people who have complex social, emotional, behavioural, and educational needs move forward to lead healthy and fulfilled lives.

Primary and Secondary education is provided to children and young people who may struggle to stay engaged with learning. Our education programme delivers the broad outcomes of Curriculum for Excellence, taught in a highly supportive and therapeutic learning environment.

Kibble is looking to recruit an experienced Teacher of RME. Successful candidates will be registered or eligible for registration with the GTC (Scotland) and keen to gain experience of working with young people with additional support needs.

What is the Job Function?

• To teach BGE and Senior Phase pupils RME and related subject area(s) in line with the Curriculum for Excellence and as directed by Education Managers / Head of Education
• To coordinate and deliver National Qualifications and Wider Achievement Awards in RME and related subject area(s)
• To deliver active methodology and a variety of learning and teaching styles within RME and related subject area(s)
• To ensure effective forward planning, tracking & monitoring, record keeping and assessment procedures are in place within subject department
• To promote home / school links including parental involvement
• To resource and identify required resources for RME and related subject area(s)
• To promote and maintain good relationships with all Kibble staff, all users of the schools and the local and wider community
• To liaise with staff and education management team on Education matters
• Any other reasonable duties as required by the Head of Education

Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate should –

• be registered or eligible for registration with the GTC (Scotland)
• have a recognised teaching qualification specific to RME
• demonstrate a clear commitment to continuing professional development. For example, by studying towards a qualification in or relating to additional support needs
• be a flexible, forward-thinking professional who is dedicated to inspiring children and young people, ensuring the highest quality of learning and teaching experiences
• bring skills and enthusiasm to develop innovative and creative ways of engaging children and young people in learning
• be highly organised with the ability to work on own initiative and prioritise tasks accordingly
• display excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills and an ability to work with a variety of people at all levels
• possess excellent communication skills – verbal and written, including the ability to draft reports and attend meetings with external partners / agencies
• Able to work effectively under pressure and to tight deadlines
• Receptive to working in a fast paced, changing environment

• The successful candidate will be required to undertake Safe Crisis Management (SCM) training and will require a level of fitness to be able to carry out SCM. The successful candidate must be able to participate fully in this training and be prepared to put this training into practice

The SCM training will consist of two days theory and two days physical training. The successful candidate must complete this training in full within four weeks of an agreed start date. Should the candidate for any reason fail any aspect of the SCM training (theory, physical or both parts), an additional two weeks will be given to pass.
