Kellwood Hiring for Associate Designer at City of Industry, California Full Time

Junior Division at Kellwood is looking to bring on to the Knits Team an organized, detail-oriented Associate Designer.

Works closely with the Design Director to develop and execute the assigned categories with the seasonal trend concepts and merchandise strategy.

Manages design execution process to ensure all deadlines are met.

What you’ll do:

• In-house sampling, coordination, and execution of monthly lines
• Work closely in partnership with Art Dept, Print/ Embroidery Vendors, Dye/ Wash Houses, etc. Coordinate with pattern maker, cutting, and sewing.
• Partners with Designer in reviewing designs, lab dips, wash, trims, and fabrics details, etc.
• Execute detailed photos of the garments for production purposes. Tag samples and prep for shipping.
• Monitors calendar to ensure completion of line.
• Create Costing Packs and organize all info pertaining to all aspects of the garment: color, fabric, trim, print, etc.
• Liaison between Design and Production and the handing off all technical information to the Production Team. Owns the communication of the details of these handoffs.
• Execute and coordinate Ad samples as needed.
• Learns target customer and assists in performing research, including shopping to analyze fashion trends in color, style, fabric, trims, and competitive product.
• Create cads via Illustrator as needed. Assist in finalizing line sheets. Ability to execute cad requests from Sales Team.
• Source, develop, and order fabric and trim from Overseas suppliers.
• Organize new fabrics and trim as they come in, requesting codes, and creating reference swatches for Design.
• Systematically keep track of existing fabrics on hand and to replenish as needed.
• Create accurate paperwork to be communicated to the Technical Coordinators for entry into the PLM package. This final step is critical to ensure all information entered into the final Production PLM package is accurate and will produce the garment to specifications required.

What you’ll need:

• A two-to-four-year degree in a Fashion/ Apparel related major with a minimum 3 years’ experience in Design.
• This position requires a detailed oriented individual and strong self-starter with technical knowledge of garment design, print, graphics, knit fabrications, color, trend, finishes, some sewing and garment construction.
• Strong computer skills in Excel, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Outlook
• Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills with the ability to prioritize the workload to meet all objectives.
• This position requires effective work relationships across multiple levels and functions.
