With an expected mine life of 30+ years, it will underpin a long-term iron ore business and provide sustainable benefits to the regional community in which we operate. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks.

We are seeking a Health and Hygiene Advisor to join our site based Health, Safety & Training team, being responsible to ensure the health of employees through the delivery of professional hygiene monitoring programs.

The Advisor will show commitment to Karara health programs and support staff in the implementation and management phases, ensure compliance with legislation, meet organisational and business requirements and deliver expert advice on hygiene, dust, radiation, noise and ventilation aspects of safety compliance.

This position operates on an 8 days on 6 days off roster.

Key responsibilities;

• Regularly inspecting and testing workplaces, travel ways, and locations where persons may travel at the mine to determine whether atmospheric contaminants at the mine are maintained at levels as low as can reasonably be achieved
• Ensure sampling of atmospheric contaminants requested by an inspector is carried out, recorded and reported accurately within the time required in accordance with standards and regulations
• Examine and report on, the means and effectiveness of dust suppression or dust collection devices and systems at the mine
• Maintain certification of monitoring equipment and stock levels of consumables to allow ongoing monitoring and measurement.
• Ensure all records of monitoring, measuring and recording of all activities related to ventilation, radiation and noise are kept in compliance with relevant legislation and company policy.
• Ensure all non-conformances or exceedances are recorded in the Karara Incident Management database and investigations are undertaken including agreed and assigned relevant actions for completion.
• Deliver educational programs to improve awareness and compliance in regard to Karara relevant occupational hygiene issues.
• Assist in the development, implementation, maintenance and improvement of health and safety management standards, procedures, tools and templates
• Support the application of Karara’s risk management processes including risk assessments at the personal, group and organisational level
• Participate in incident investigations and support the tracking of preventative actions through to completion
• Complete health and safety audits and inspections in accordance with Karara’s compliance monitoring program and prepare reports clearly articulating findings, non-compliances and opportunities for improvement

Essential Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience

• Tertiary qualification in Occupational, Health and Safety and / or Occupational Hygiene.
• Certificate IV Surface Ventilation Officer or Technician
• Registered Noise Officer (DMIRS)
• Registered Radiation Safety Officer (DMIRS)
• WA “C” Class Driver’s License
• Proven knowledge and experience performing the roles and responsibilities of the Surface Ventilation Officer and Noise Officer as required by the Mine Safety Inspection Act 1994 and Regulations
• Previous experience performing the roles and responsibilities of a Radiation Safety Officer in accordance with the Radiation Safety Act 1975 and Regulations
• Experience working within the Mines Safety and Inspections Act 1994 and Regulations.
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software including but not limited to Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
• National Police Clearance
• Permanent work rights in Australia
