J.W. Jung Seed Company is an industry leader in mail-order and retail gardening. Jung Seed Company ships thousands of quality seeds, plants, and gardening accessories to all 50 states. We have five garden centers in the state of Wisconsin with our corporate headquarters stationed in Randolph, WI.

J.W. Jung Seed Company is looking to hire a talented and highly motivated Controller. Reporting to the Owner/President, the Controller will play a critical role in strategic decision making and operations as the company continues to enhance its quality offerings. The successful candidate will be a hands-on, participatory manager who, will lead the Accounting Team, and will have a successful track record in setting priorities; as well as excellent analytic, organization, and communication skills.

Job Responsibilities: As the Controller, you will be responsible for supervising the accounting department, which will include establishing and maintaining organizational structure and staffing as well as selecting, training and mentoring of accounting staff, as needed. In addition, the Controller is responsible for the following:

Financial Reporting

• Preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with US GAAP
• Supervises the preparation of the monthly management financial reporting package
• Reporting of operational data to key members of leadership team, including key metrics on inventory
• Coordinates the creation of periodic Board of Directors reporting packages
• Manages the annual financial audit process performed by our independent CPA firm.

Operational

• Responsible for timely, accurate and efficient reporting of company wide financial statements
• Ensure accuracy of the physical inventory and reported results.
• Manages accounting functions on a day-to-day basis including invoicing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, procurement, and general ledger accounting.
• Enhances accounting department’s use of software and integrates software into accounting processes and procedures.
• Performs technical accounting issue research and resolution as necessary

Internal Controls

• Develops, analyzes, documents, and implements internal controls.
• Develops, maintains and enhances accounting and finance policies, processes and procedures to comply with US GAAP
• Seeks opportunities to revise or create new policies and procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the accounting group.

Other

• Responsible for local, state and federal tax compliance and reporting (including payroll, property and sales and use tax compliance and reporting);
• Manages preparation of regulatory filings

Skills Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field and an active CPA License
• Management experience building and leading accounting teams
• General ledger and other accounting systems experience. Experience utilizing SAGE, ADP, and Avalara a plus. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, required.
• Proven experience advancing an organization’s software usage and ability to lead an accounting department to a technology efficient department.

Pay: $85,462.00 – $91,216.00 per year
