Position: Group Financial Accountant

JPI Media is one of the largest national, regional and local multimedia organisations in the UK, and is part of the National World plc group. We provide news and information services to our communities through our portfolio of hundreds of publications and websites.

The Group Financial Accountant takes ownership and responsibility for the management and statutory reporting for the business. You will report directly to the Group Financial Controller, and be based in the London Head office finance team.

Team Management

• Work closely with the finance team to deliver the monthly and statutory reporting requirements of the Group.
• Deputise for the Group Financial Controller as required.
• To be an advocate of the Company values in dealing with internal and external stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

External Financial Reporting

• Prepare and control the interim and year-end statutory accounts for Group and Subsidiary entities.
• Provide technical accounting support, including new accounting standard impact.
• Liaise with external auditors.
• Assist with reviewing critical judgement areas.

Group Financial Reporting

• Prepare and analyse the monthly P&L packs and review the business performance commentary.
• Assist with Group Board reporting, including Revenue trend analysis, Group Balance sheet, Statutory and Underlying P&L’s and other ad hoc requirements.
• Develop risk, governance and control frameworks within the Group.
• Support the on-going development of reporting outputs and review process, identify and develop process improvements and investigate solution.
• Oversee the Group’s tax reporting obligations including review of quarterly Group VAT returns.
• Assist with weekly cash reporting including dynamic daily forecasting on a rolling quarterly basis
• Assist in the preparation of direct and indirect cashflow forecasts on both a systematic and ad hoc basis
• Assist with cashflow reports and variance analysis for inclusion in board reporting, as needed
• Review & sign off on monthly bank reconciliations, ensuring timely resolution of reconciling items.
• Maintain loan schedules and execute associated accounting entries for interest accruals, payments & note redemptions

Essential skills for the successful applicant

We’re looking for a finalist/newly qualified accountant who wants to join a fast paced team and really make a difference.

• Solid experience in Management and Statutory reporting
• ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualified with strong technical skills and ability to articulate impact of new accounting standards on the financial statements
• Strong analytical and data interpretation skills, underpinned by system skills (including Excel).
• Commercial acumen – core skills in accounting, data interrogation and modelling coupled with a keen understanding of key strategic priorities and business goals/levers
• Ability to achieve objectives and meet deadlines with a flexible and positive attitude to work.
• Articulate with excellent verbal and written communication skills
• A high attention to detail, being proactive, and communicating with finance & non-finance staff whilst working under pressure are essential skills for this role.
