Overview:

We are currently recruiting for a Principal Mechanical Engineer to work for our client at their facility in Newton Abbots, the role will be responsible for delivery of effective mechanical Engineering solutions within a professionally managed level of risk to meet project, business and contractual requirements to the defined budget and schedule.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• To provide leadership and direction across the Business for the technical aspects of Mechanical Engineering issues.
• To act as a representative and focal interface within the Engineering Department for Mechanical Engineering technical issues. Where additional information and or knowledge is required then to research and work with others both in internal and external to gain the necessary support and knowledge to be able to make an informed recommendation and issue a report as necessary. Where information is requested from other departments then the transfer of information from engineering will be through the allocated engineer.
• To work with the Engineering Manager and the Principal Electrical Engineers on a technical level and ensure that implications and risks with mechanical design are considered alongside electrical.
• To deliver verified and validated Mechanical Engineering solutions that comply with the appropriate standards and directives and that fulfils the technical requirements of the business and the certificating authorities.
• To ensure that Mechanical Engineering experience and capability is shared and passed on to the Engineering teams and to provide training where required.
• To ensure that processes and procedures are agreed and consistently applied across products and that the level of technology being used is consistent and appropriate across products for the business needs.
• To take leadership of the mechanical aspects of the power gen system across the delegated scope of operation.
• To provide adequate communication, sharing and flow down of information throughout the Engineering function, it’s internal interfaces and sub-suppliers on new technologies and changes being implemented.
• For the scope of operation, ensuring that the mechanical aspects are appropriately and fully integrated.
• To identify and manage risks across projects and baseline products.
• To provide the necessary evidence and documentation to support the requirements of Certificating authorities, and Quality Systems.
• To ensure the development and deployment of continuous improvement to support the business objectives.
• To ensure that the Engineering Manager and Principal Electrical Engineer are kept up to date with information on mechanical technical decisions and direction taken for the scope of operation.
• To assist the Engineering Manager and Principal Electrical Engineer on a technical level to ensure that the business is in a position to deliver projects, and programmes to allocated budget and cost and to the appropriate level of technology.
• To provide support to the Engineering Manager as required.
• To deploy engineering processes, methods and tools and ensure that these are consistently applied across projects.
• To assist other engineers as required to provide all necessary evidence and documentation to support the requirements of Baseline and any Projects, certificating authorities, directives and standards.
• To ensure that work carried out by other team members meets business and professional standards and is completed on time, and to provide assistance and guidance where required.
• To ensure that all technical direction/ decisions made gives due consideration to the available budget.
• To provide technical assistance, guidance and where appropriate fully worked solutions to interfacing functions.

Knowledge & Skills:

Essential:

• Be an engineering professional with a minimum of a degree in a relevant subject.
• Have a minimum of 5 years post degree relevant experience.
• Experience of working with power generation equipment and or rotating machinery.
• High level of knowledge in PED and Machinery Directive.
• Have a proactive approach to problem solving with the ability to plan ahead.
• Be able to meet deadlines and respond to changing priorities.
• Be a good communicator.
• Have the ability to work under your own initiative to work as part of a multi-disciplined team.
• Have the ability to undertake short overseas visits.
• Be computer literate in the use of Microsoft Office in particular Outlook, Word, Excel and Autodesk suite of products.
• Full driving licence valid in the UK and Passport valid for travel.

Desirable:

• Chartered or working towards Chartership.
• Experience with Syteline.
• Ability in a second European Language.
• Civil engineering experience.
• Experience with Nastran (or similar).
