Who are JNCC?

Established in 1991, we’re the UK’s statutory advisor on issues affecting the natural environment across the UK and internationally. Our primary role is advising all four Governments of the UK. We also work with private sector organisations to support decision making on the sustainable use of marine waters and natural resources around the UK. JNCC is led by the Joint Committee, which brings together members from the nature conservation bodies for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and independent members appointed by the Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs under an independent Chair. Support is provided to the Committee by almost 250 people who bring together scientific and technical expertise, extensive knowledge of policy at global, European and national levels, and skills in working with other organisations. Staff are based in two main offices in Peterborough and Aberdeen.

Post Background

Based in the Finance & Planning team the Finance & Planning Apprentice will play a key role in maintaining the finance system, supporting finance system users and providing assistance in management reporting and the operational activities of the Finance Team while training at the same time via an AAT Apprenticeship. The apprenticeship will run over 3 years, with 4 days a week in post and one day a week to attend training/study, this may be onsite or at the training providers accommodation. On successful completion of the Apprenticeship, you will have a Professional Accounting Technician EPA (Level 4) qualification.

Post duties will include but not be limited to:

System administration

• Support the System Administrator for Kypera Business and Kypera Financials

• Provide advice and assist with training system users

• Maintain up to date documented procedures relating to Kypera Business and maintain guidance on Kypera Financials and XLR

• Support implementing system enhancements to promote efficiency and effectiveness

• Work with users to improve information retrieval from Kypera for non-finance users

Finance

• Support maintenance of static data in Kypera Financials (new suppliers, job codes, coding information) meeting commercial confidentiality and data security requirements in line with JNCC policy.

• Assist users in navigating and identifying the relevant coding information for their projects.

• Assist Finance and Procurement Officer in processing of payment runs and manual payments

• Ensure expenses claims are processed accurately and promptly via Kypera Business.

• Monthly balance sheet reconciliations and daily review of bank transactions

Income project support

• Provide support to income project managers, collecting and collating information as required for individual projects

We’ll assess you against these technical skills during the selection process:

• Aged 18+
• GCSEs in Maths and English at grade C/4 or above (or Scottish equivalent – Level 5) or be willing to complete and pass these- a permanent job offer is dependent on this being completed
• An experienced user of Microsoft office in particular Excel
• experience working within a finance team, of using finance systems and reporting, and enjoy working with both people and data
• experience of reconciling balance sheet items and of using purchase and sales ledger systems
• the ability to communicate financial data to non-finance colleagues

Leave entitlement

JNCC annual leave allowance is 25 days per annum. After five years’ service, leave entitlement increases to 30 days per annum.
