The Maintenance Manager will provide strategic direction and resource management vital to operate, troubleshoot, set up, adjust, repair, and maintain equipment supporting manufacturing processes. This role will develop and implement standardized operating processes, procedures, and practices for the maintenance team. They will provide strategic leadership for the maintenance excellence program and partner with manufacturing and engineering to provide optimal life cycle management for manufacturing and utility equipment; providing asset management to increase productivity and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE). They will develop and enhance the maintenance organization through effective organizational design, talent selection, employee development, training, and performance management of the maintenance process.
The Maintenance Manager will work closely with direct reports and Finance in the development and control of business strategy and plans, budgets, cost expenditure, and cost control. They will have the ability to make decisions and provide direction to ensure uninterrupted service and minimal equipment downtime supporting product quality and manufacturing efficiency. They will be able to fill in for the Guelph Plant Manager when necessary; act as technical lead and partner with MS&T (Engineering, Reliability, and Process Science) groups for the maintenance of equipment. Collaborates with J&J Regulatory and Quality Operations Management to ensure compliance and product quality.
Responsibilities:
A strong working GMP knowledge & ability to communicate and identify GMP gaps
Participate in and act as SME in all types of audits & inspections
Ensure overall maintenance of equipment are always up to standard
Maintain working knowledge of SAP, ERP, & Maximo systems, and any other relevant systems
Drive the reliability program through the development and implementation of a strong calibration program
Be the Maintenance SME to understand the critical aspect of product, component and labelling requirements.
Participate in and write investigations as required
Seek timely identification, reporting and correction of deviations in the workplace as noted by employees
Responsible and accountable for ensuring all work performed and operations (processes) are completed in a compliant and safe manner.
Take vital actions to eliminate and immediately address potential safety hazards, partnering with site EHS. Communicates any observed unsafe behaviours immediately.
Understand safety concerns and promote a safety conscience culture
Contribute to and attend all EHS programs as assigned.
SME and responsible to review and sign off on relevant documentation for the maintenance function as required by the quality process in the execution of relevant work.
Document all activities per GMP requirements
Drive implementation of continuous improvement actions.
Proactively identify, evaluate, and prioritize, opportunities for continuous improvement, collaborating with the maintenance team and cross-functional groups.
Leadership
Responsible for ensuring adherence to and performance of the maintenance team to the Compliance, Product Quality, Customer Service and Cost goals.
Ensure employees on the maintenance team are trained on required procedures for the execution of their role and remain current with training requirements throughout the year.
Embrace a behaviour of employee involvement and dedication in doing the job right the first time.
Provide strategic and tactical direction to the team to ensure that compliance, business, and customer service goals are translated into a tactical plan and then implemented.
Responsible to ensure all relevant processes (i.e. HR, finance, etc.) are completed and in compliance for the team and organization.
Act as a mentor and coach in the areas of project management, strategic planning, process design, metric management, and training/development to the maintenance team.
Acts as a role model when continuously demonstrating all Leadership behaviours including: fairness, integrity, consistency and ethical behaviours, emotional intelligence and collaboration.
Contribute and support an environment that fosters diversity, equity and inclusion.
Fosters a climate of open communication, engagement and ownership within the team and Plant organization. Communicate effectively to all levels of the organization.
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or a related technical field
Proven success working in an FDA/cGMP compliant environment
A minimum of 8 years overall experience
Professional staff management and people development experience
Varied Project Management skills/experience
Experience in multiple Engineering and/or Operations fields
Preferred:
Certification in Project Management, Lean Six Sigma
Significant engineering, technical and/or operations experience
Experience with asset management to increase efficiency and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)
Others:
This position may require up to 10% domestic or international travel.
