John Knox Village of Central Florida Inc Hiring for Medical Records Coordinator at Orange City, FL Full Time

Job Summary: Responsible to maintain medical records in an organized manner in accordance with Federal and State regulations.

Core Competencies/Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

• Check the medical record on admission and periodically to assure completeness, accuracy, and internal consistency. This includes determining whether additional transfer data is necessary and following up to assure receipt.
• Communicate with and assist the medical staff and allied health personnel in updating and maintaining records including uploading documents into the electronic health record.
• Review discharge documentation to ensure that medical record is complete and accurate within 30 days of discharge including proper discharge/transfer notifications to all parties.
• Maintain a filing system for all records including thinned, overflow, and discharge records that utilizes appropriate sign out and follow up controls of records.
• Maintain and control release of medical records to authorized persons according to accepted standards and HIPAA regulations.
• Prepare, copy, and send appropriate medical records as requested for litigation according to established timelines. All medical records requests from an attorney should be reviewed by the Administrator before any records are prepared.
• Will create files for new admissions, ensure medical records are complete, assembled in standard order and file documents in accordance with established procedures. This includes periodic rounds on units to ensure all filing is maintained.
• Follow all policies and procedures as it relates to maintaining and managing medical records storage, distribution, and destruction.
• Thin medical records on the units in coordination with the MDS schedule or as needed.
• Collect, correlate, and maintain statistical data related to medical records as needed and finding to the Quality Assurance and QAPI committees as appropriate.

Other Functions and Responsibilities:

• Assures resident safety at all times.
• Will perform other tasks/duties as assigned

Working Conditions:

• Office atmosphere, generally air-conditioned. May be required to go to offsite storage which may or not be air-conditioned for short periods of time.

Educational, Physical, and Other Requirements:

• Candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent.

• Employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations, Physical requirements may include frequent use of hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear. The employee may be required to lift, stand, walk, sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and smell.

Vision abilities may require close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to lift 30 lbs.
